We had the good fortune of connecting with Navi Schiff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Navi, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Growing up in Yosemite California I fell in love with nature. That’s when I started to document my surroundings and take inspiration from great photographer masters such as Ansel Adams whose work not only put our great national parks on the map but also allowed many to see photography as more of an art form.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’d say my art varies; theres my portraiture, my stop motion animations and collage style pictures. Each is unique in its approach to documenting moments people and places. Some pack political
messaging or carry my emotions. I wouldn’t say I’m anywhere particularly today but to establish myself as a working creative requires constant pushing and commitment it’s a never ending push to establish myself as someone worthy of peoples time to see and appreciate my art. The subjective nature of creatives can be a really harsh as many seem to enjoy the work of someone they’re charmed by and not that the art is particularly good.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not sure! It depends on the person and what they like to do there’s so many different areas and places to go and see that it’s difficult to generalize specific areas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d say my biggest support is my loving husband through all the ups and downs he’s been by my side to make sure I know my worth and remember my talents. I lean on him through my doubts and he helps me create a realistic approach to my life as a creator.
