We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Drushchenko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
The most important principle in my work is to do only what aligns with my chosen creative path (my artistic vision). As a tattoo artist, I constantly interact with clients, and if I merely follow orders and fulfill every whim, I could lose both my sense of taste and personal style. I don’t want to offend anyone who comes to me for a tattoo; I’m open to any ideas and challenges. However, I am not willing to copy others or work under strict instruction. For me, collaboration is crucial: it’s about merging the client’s idea with my vision of that idea. This is what I enjoy about tattooing and the philosophy I follow.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a tattoo artist working in a conceptual style. This is a relatively new direction in tattooing, and over the years of practice, I have developed my own signature vision and concept. I work with clients’ ideas, ‘telling their story’ on skin. This is likely the most valuable aspect of my work and what sets me apart from other artists. It’s a vision I arrived at after years of practice. I can’t say whether it was easy or hard; it’s simply part of the process. I would like people to know me primarily as a creative person. I’m not interested in doing mundane things; I enjoy challenging myself, facing new challenges, and growing in my craft. My tattoos are unique, as they tell the stories of my clients.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I don’t have a lot of free time to explore the city and discover different places, but I’ll try. I live in West Hollywood, so I’d start my day with a cup of coffee at Javista Coffee, take a ride along Santa Monica Boulevard to the beach of the same name to catch the sunset. I’d also recommend visiting Big Bear Lake, Manhattan Beach, and the Griffith Observatory.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course, my greatest love and support comes from my wife. We’ve been together since school, and from the beginning of my tattooing career to the present day, she has supported me every step of the way, ultimately bringing me to where I am now. She is a huge part of this story, and I am profoundly grateful to her!
