Meet Darren Hawkins | Entrepreneur & Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Darren Hawkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Darren, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Growing up in Inglewood, CA, I was surrounded by influences that could have easily pulled me in the wrong direction. Gang culture was always present, and it shaped my perspective on life early on—reminding me how easy it could be to get caught up in a lifestyle that leads nowhere. But what kept me grounded was my family. Their love and constant support gave me the structure I needed to stay on the right path. They believed in me when things got tough and made sure I knew that I had a bigger purpose.
Being the first in my family to pursue education at this level wasn’t just a personal goal—it was a responsibility I took seriously. I had people depending on me to make it, and that gave me focus. The challenges I faced taught me resilience, discipline, and the importance of making choices that align with my long-term vision. I learned how to tune out distractions and stay committed to my goals, even when the odds weren’t in my favor.
My upbringing taught me not just how to survive, but how to thrive under pressure. It shaped my mindset: I see obstacles as opportunities to grow, and I know that my story is bigger than me. I am proud of where I come from, and I carry that pride with me in everything I do. It keeps me motivated to break barriers, set new standards, and show others that it’s possible to rise above your circumstances. In many ways, the environment I grew up in built my character, but my family gave me the tools and belief to shape my future. Together, those experiences made me who I am today—someone determined, focused, and ready to make a difference.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I’m most proud of about AdarenProductions is how far it has come, even with the challenges along the way. Balancing a 9-5 job while running a production business isn’t easy, especially when things slow down, and staying motivated can feel tough. But through every obstacle, I’ve stayed positive, knowing that consistency and patience are part of the process. This journey has taught me resilience, and I take pride in pushing through those moments, always keeping the bigger vision in mind.
What sets me apart is the level of care and versatility I bring to my work. As a director of photography and editor, I offer a comprehensive range of services, which allows me to meet the needs of my clients from start to finish. I’m committed to innovation and creativity, always thinking outside the box to deliver high-quality work. I don’t just provide services; I work closely with clients to truly understand their vision, bringing it to life in a way that reflects their ideas and dreams.
The challenges are real, but I’ve learned to overcome them through effective time management, planning, and disciplined scheduling. Staying prayed up keeps me grounded and focused, and I’m not afraid to stumble along the way. Failure isn’t something I fear—it’s part of the process that helps me grow and get better every step of the way. Like Nipsey Hussle said, “The difference between me and whoever is going through this is I don’t quit.” That mindset keeps me going, no matter how tough things get, and it’s what will ultimately lead me to greater success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d make sure they got the full experience of everything I love about my city and beyond. First, we’d hit some of my favorite food spots—1 House of Tacos in Inglewood is a must. From there, we’d grab a classic burger from Astro Burgers, enjoy some legendary tacos from Tito’s Tacos, and of course, stop by Tom’s Burger for a bite. Those places not only serve great food but also give a taste of the vibe and culture I grew up around.
We’d explore the staples of Inglewood—the places that shaped me. I’d show them around the city, from hidden gems to newer spots that reflect the growth happening here. We’d make sure to spend some time at the beach, soaking in the sun and just enjoying the simplicity of the ocean.
I also enjoy visiting places that spark new ideas and perspectives, so we’d definitely hit up some museums, an aquarium, or whatever cultural spot is calling us that day. There’s something about being in spaces like that—it opens your mind to new visions and ways of seeing the world. At the end of the week, I’d want my friend to not only feel connected to the places I love but also leave with a fresh sense of inspiration and insight.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to take a moment to give a heartfelt shoutout to my incredible support group—my family, friends, and leaders—who have stood by me through every season of life. You all saw potential in me when I couldn’t see it myself and pushed me to reach heights I never thought I could achieve. Even when I didn’t want to hear it, when I felt like giving up, or when I thought I had done “enough,” you challenged me to dig deeper and become the best version of myself.
To my family—your love and guidance kept me grounded. You reminded me where I came from and taught me the value of hard work and perseverance. To my friends—you gave me the balance I needed and held me accountable, showing me that real friendship isn’t just about good times but about growth too. And to the leaders and mentors in my life—you refused to let me stay comfortable. You taught me the power of discipline, focus, and believing in something greater than myself.
Each of you has played a critical role in shaping the person I am today. The lessons, late-night talks, tough love, and constant encouragement made a lasting impact. I’m grateful beyond words for your investment in me and for pushing me to step outside my comfort zone—even when it felt uncomfortable or overwhelming.
I carry everything you’ve taught me with pride, and I’m committed to continuing the journey of growth, not just for myself, but as a reflection of all the energy, love, and effort you’ve poured into me. Thank you for believing in me even when I doubted myself. I wouldn’t be who I am today without you.
