Meet Opal Fox | Actress/Writer/Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Opal Fox and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Opal, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue a creative career path because of my family. Growing up I was always lovingly labeled dramatic and given the nickname “Hollywood” by my mom, aunts, and close family friends because of my flair for all things theatrical and extravagant! I have always yearned to transform myself through costumes, characters, and storytelling as a whole. My mother was also an artist, with her best expressions being through the medium of writing; She inspired me to be open to all of life’s opportunities and encouraged me greatly to be fearless in my pursuits. Without my family’s ‘seed planting’ words of affirmation and support, I am not sure what path I would have taken!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am truly most proud of my resilience, tenacity, and determination in this life as a whole. Getting to where I am at, from the place I am from is a miracle in and of itself! There are very deep and tumultuous roots in my personal story. I choose daily to persevere and take control of my mindset and outlook on life, knowing that, “the rearview is smaller than the windshield” for a reason! And with that, I am incredibly proud of my professional accomplishments as of late.
My professional titles are Writer/Actress/Designer and within those are Literary Editor/Comedian/Stylist. I am credited as editor for the novel The Playboy Pastor: A Secret Romance which is Part 1 of a 6 part series by Andrea Furlow! It is a very scandalous and riveting read. Once you pick it up, it is so very hard to put down! You can find that on many ebook outlets, including Barnes & Noble and Amazon!
I am a writer of many things including novellas, poetry and screenplays. Most have yet to be seen by the public, though they will certainly be released in due time! The most recent, and dare I say, exciting of my writing endeavors is a comedy T.V. pilot that I am co-writing with fellow Los Angeles creative, Adrianne Embry. We have intentions of pitching our series to networks and production companies at the top of the new year.
My longest passion has been for acting, finishing my high school years with the Ring of Honor for Theater before heading off to Indiana State University with a major in Theater Arts. I then transferred to The American Academy of Dramatic Arts here in Los Angeles, CA where I received my Associates Degree. I have done a few short films, with my most recent one being “Ego Tango,” written and directed by Christian Kamaal. I am currently signed with Daniel Mulhern of DPM Talent Agency for Commercial Representation where I also intern to learn more about the industry from the inside out!
I am newly debuted as a Stand-Up Comedian! Now those who know me personally know that I have always been a silly goose- I am just presently showing that to the world and am having an absolute blast doing so! I performed my very first ten minute set with the wonderful people of CutiesLA, which is a black, brown, and queer focused community space. I was then invited by “Ginger Juice+Thrift” to perform at their very first open mic event this past October! It has been a very exhilarating start to this journey!
My love for all things fashion started at a very early age! I recall getting all dressed up with my best friend with the sole purpose of spending the afternoon taking photos with each other.
Personally, I have created and sold over 100+ copper and crystal jewelry designs through my company BESPOKE By OPAL. I have also designed multiple garments over the years with three of them walking in AZFW for Angel Virtuoso’s Black Heart Event 2022.
I, firstly, gained experience as a Stylist by helping fellow creative friends find their personal style through clothes already in their wardrobe! I then elevated to collaborating with local, up and coming music artists to further my experience. This year I have worked professionally as a stylist on such things as Double Agents in Love, a new vertical series by AWRY Productions LLC, and the music video “Chami Boi” by artist Sideways 8, both of which will be released in 2025!
It is certainly tricky being a creative person who only thrives when in pursuit of each of my passions. Time, money, and focus being a huge determining factor for success in these fields, is often sparse. Though, with proper discipline, determination and set goals, I firmly believe it is inevitable to reach that point of self actualization.
I want the world to know that through my “multi-hyphenate” passions I, unwaveringly, will achieve success!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since living in Los Angeles, from time to time, I have been asked where I am from. To which I answer, “Indiana.” They usually then ask me, “Do you like it here?” I always respond with a resounding, “YES!” Being from the Midwest, it is almost overwhelming to have so many exciting options to explore here in the city and out! Some of my favorite things to do in general would be to eat impeccable food, experience art and explore nature- If I were to spend a week showing a friend around town I would absolutely recommend these places:
EATS~
Connie and Teds
Tev’s Kitchen
Geoffrey’s Malibu
Anarkali
Bacari
El Sauz
Castaway
ARTS~
Getty Villa + Museum
Sh*t Art Club
Hammer Museum
Perri + Ren Gallery
SIGHTS~

Hummingbird Garden at Kenneth Hahn

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and largely, I would like to shout out my mother, Wendy Fox; For her I have the courage to grab life by the reigns each day! In truth, there have been so many wonderful people who have filtered in and out of my life that have absolutely pushed me, inspired me, or showed me ways of doing things that I would not have achieved on my own.
More recently I would love to shout out Daniel Mulheran of DPM Talent Agency. He has represented me commercially since 2019, and for that I am grateful, but even more so because he has given me the opportunity to learn more behind the scenes workings of the entertainment industry through mentorship/internship.
I would also like to shout out Dante Bailey, a Filmmaker and USC graduate who has founded the community writers group “Tune-Up Tuesday.” I feel the need to shout him out because, although I have always identified as a writer, screenwriting is still new to me and he has cultivated a space that welcomes people of all levels to come in, share, learn, and feel accepted and respected. This group has also afforded me much needed community in this ever expanding city!
Lastly for now, I would like to shout out Adrianne D. and CutiesLA for providing a space for me in their latest Comedy Show, “In Living Queer.” I was able to perform my debut comedy set which has thrusted me onto a new branch in my creative journey!
