We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexie Lekkos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to start my business, it came from this deep desire to help people in a way that felt true to me. Starting my own hypnotherapy practice meant I could create my own rules and design a process that I truly believe helps people heal. I’ve never been the kind of person who’s content with the 9-5 lifestyle. Freedom is so important to me, and for me, true freedom is having control over my time and how much I can grow—not being limited by someone else’s rules or expectations.

Helping people heal their trauma is incredibly meaningful to me, and building trust and authenticity with my clients is crucial. It’s so important that I can show up as my true self, not trying to fit into someone else’s brand or mold. The mental health field can sometimes feel a bit rigid, with an emphasis on staying overly formal and detached. While I absolutely value professionalism, I also believe there’s power in being vulnerable and real. My goal is to create a safe, open space where clients feel comfortable sharing whatever is on their mind—no matter how “crazy” it might seem—because that’s where true healing begins.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Having my hypnotherapy practice has honestly been life-changing. I feel like I’m growing and healing with each client. I see myself in so many of them, and it’s incredible to help others while they also teach me new things about myself. I’m so proud of my clients’ progress—their achievements and growth are all I think about, and they keep me going. It’s incredibly rewarding to hear how hypnotherapy has helped someone gain confidence and take on new challenges, like going on dates or seizing an intimidating opportunity. Or hearing about someone who struggled with insomnia for 20 years finally getting 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Or someone who used to struggle with weight loss, but now understands why they emotionally eat and have reprogrammed their mindset, resulting in a 40-pound weight loss. These changes are life altering, and I’ve watched so many people step into their highest selves and live their best lives because hypnotherapy helped them so much. It’s been life-changing for me too. You can’t imagine how fulfilling it is to serve people in this way. I’m constantly buzzing with gratitude, I feel so thankful that I get to make a living helping people heal the deep traumas that have shadowed their lives.

I definitely struggled to get clients for a long time. For a while, I was working for free, hoping to get referrals and testimonials. I saved up money, quit my waitressing job, and decided to go 100% all in. It was a scary move, but a crucial one. Putting in all my time and energy and creating momentum by working for free was necessary—and it worked! I started getting referrals, podcasts reached out, I gained some Instagram followers, and all kinds of ways people were finding me started to open up. I was printing business cards and flyers and, for an hour each day, I’d walk around putting them on people’s cars. I went to coffee shops, yoga studios, and massage parlors, asking if I could leave a flyer. It was scary, but you just have to do it. All those efforts added up, and people started finding me.

I really learned to suck it up, be brave, and take my shot—you never know what’s going to happen. I also realized that people want to help you more than you think. People are kind, people are good, and that mentality helped me find the courage to ask strangers for support. I had to trust the process and truly believe that one day, I WILL get clients, this WILL work out, and I WILL eventually hit my goals. I was running out of my savings and I went 5 months working mostly for free and this time period was terrifying. There were so many days I wanted to give up, and I had doubts in myself and the universe. But my dominant belief was: No, I got this. I trusted that things would unfold as they were meant to, and I kept going, knowing it was all eventually going to come together. And it did. I now have the career and life I have been manifesting, and it feels so surreal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend were visiting me in LA, I would take them on a bike ride starting at the Santa Monica Pier and going all through the Venice Boardwalk. I’ve been doing that ride since I was a kid, and it never gets old. There’s so much to see—it’s peaceful and entertaining at the same time.

For food, you can’t go wrong with Din Tai Fung, followed by donuts from Sidecar. That would be the ultimate meal—fantastic and incredible.

For drinks, there’s a small, classy, romantic bar in Santa Monica called Bar Chloe. The drinks are incredible, the music is perfect, I highly recommend it.

Something I always do when hosting guests is take them to the Lake Shrine Meditation Gardens. It’s wonderful—you don’t feel like you’re in a city anymore. It’s incredibly peaceful and beautiful. You could spend the whole day walking around, feeding the swans, and meditating. It’s truly amazing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest supporter through all of this has been my partner, Andrew. He and his partners started a real estate company called Link Brokerages, and they’ve been killing it. The business grew so fast, and Andrew’s always had that entrepreneurial spirit—so he knows so much. He’s given me so much advice and guidance, and I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today without him. He celebrates every little win with me, and his support has meant everything.
