We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Reid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in the projects as the youngest of three kids. Life wasn’t easy—my parents didn’t have enough income to fully support my dreams and talents, but that didn’t stop me. I found ways to express myself through gymnastics, dancing, and participating in school dramatic shows. Those creative outlets became my escape and my voice.

Growing up, I quickly learned that no one owes you anything and that nothing in life comes easy. That mindset shaped who I am today—someone who works hard, takes initiative, and refuses to let obstacles stand in the way of my goals. My background gave me resilience and a deep appreciation for every opportunity I’ve created for myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art and business are a reflection of my journey and the values that have shaped me. Under my umbrella company, badddapple, I oversee a range of creations, including film productions such as the acclaimed short film The Diner—recently warmly received as part of the Toronto Independent Film Festival, the Swan award winning documentary The Sick in the Six, available for streaming on the Sofy TV platform, and the upcoming episodic Marvelous Marvin, currently in preproduction. A jewellery and fashion merchandise line based on the bad apple logo and our mission statement. . What sets badddapple apart is its deep connection to resilience and creativity. Our mission says it all: “Embrace the struggle, for every challenge is a stepping stone to your greatness. Keep shining, even from the shadows. Pushing boundaries to inspire greatness.”

Getting to where I am today professionally was far from easy. Growing up, resources were limited, and I had to learn early on how to adapt, persist, and work hard for what I wanted. The challenges were many, but I overcame them by staying true to myself, leaning on the support of those who believed in me, and never losing sight of the bigger picture.

I’ve learned so much along the way—chiefly, that every setback is an opportunity to grow, and the power of self-expression is limitless when combined with determination. Through badddapple, I want the world to know that struggles are not roadblocks; they’re stepping stones. I aim to inspire others to embrace their challenges, push boundaries, and shine brightly—even in the shadows.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Toronto, I’d create a week-long itinerary packed with fun, fitness, and exploration.

First and foremost, as a fitness enthusiast, I’d start the trip with a visit to Oxygen Fitness near Yonge and Eglinton. We’d enjoy a fun and healthy sculpting class to kickstart the day on an energetic note. Afterward, we’d grab a cappuccino at Mad Bean, my favorite coffee spot in the Forest Hill area near Yonge and Avenue Rd, where the baristas always make the perfect cup.

Next, we’d head to Kensington Market, a vibrant neighborhood filled with unique shops and amazing eateries. We’d explore the market, indulge in some local treats, and soak in the eclectic vibe. At night, the city’s entertainment scene would take center stage with live bands and comedy clubs offering an unforgettable experience.

Throughout the week, I’d include a mix of outdoor adventures—like a stroll through High Park or along the Toronto Islands—and visits to cultural landmarks such as the Art Gallery of Ontario or St. Lawrence Market. We’d finish each day enjoying Toronto’s diverse dining scene, trying cuisines from different cultures.

The city has so much to offer, and with this mix of fitness, food, and fun, it’d be a week to remember!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout first and foremost to my mother. Her unwavering support throughout my childhood and even into adulthood has been a constant source of strength for me. She always found ways to encourage me, even when resources were limited, and her belief in me has been a foundation for everything I’ve pursued.

Secondly, I have to recognize my childhood friend and partner, Richard Chevolleau. He’s an incredible talent—a double award-winning actor, producer, writer, and soon-to-be creator of a television series. His love, unending support, encouragement, and friendship have been invaluable throughout my journey. I’m truly grateful to have him in my corner, and I can’t wait to see all we achieve as a power couple.
