We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Vilhauer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
Since I started music the end goal has always been clear.

I want to create a community and platform to take care of the people around me, who have supported me on this journey. As well as share my music/art.

I have had this vision since I started and slowly but surely am watching it come to life. But I know in time I will be exactly where I’ve dreamt of all those years ago.

I want to help other artists grow and provide them a platform to express themselves.
In not just music but many art forms. I think that’s the beauty of what you can do when you reach a certain level In This industry.

So by the end of my career, I’ll have been able to tour Europe, signed with a number of dream labels, started my own label, throw big events that support and employee my friends, and build a place of community where everyone involved can further bring there ideas to life.

Lastly, once I’ve had my run with house/dance music. I would like to produce other genres and artists. Further helping, exploring, and giving back. I love music and I intend on making it my life one day at a time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art has always been an expression of myself. A side of me that is always subliminal through my music. It’s usually how I create. Tapping into what I am feeling, getting it off my mind and on to a canvas. I think my sound sets me apart. The energy I instill in my music and the feeling I bring. I’m starting to notice that more on the dance floor as I play out my new music and interact with the crowd. We all know music is above all a feeling. So I try to create that for any listener.
What I’m most excited about is just where this journey will lead. I have end goals but it’s the beauty in between that continues to blow my mind. The people I’ve met, places it’s taken me, opportunities that have arouse.
It’s been a wild ride so far.

How I got here was simply a choice. That I stuck to every day. To put in the work and believe in myself when no one else did. It wasn’t easy. Still isn’t. But the one thing I tell anyone, and it’s cliche, but anything is possible. If you have the drive, determination, and belief in yourself, you can truly make anything happen. The mind is our most powerful tool.

Along the way I’ve learned that patience is everything. You gotta understand that nothing good, nothing truly worth it, comes easy. It takes sacrifice, tears, anguish at times. But you keep going and when those moments happen. You realize why you kept going.

One day, I’d like to tell my story, all of it. Which may paint the picture of who I am and why I am the way I am. Music is just another platform for me to express that. It’s also something I just love. My passion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooofff, I mean there are so many spots. Depends on the friend too.

A day in Laguna beach, some nights in echo park, silver lake. The west side: Venice, Manhattan beach, maybe a few late night after hours in downtown. Maybe a day in Woodland Hills, some amazing eats there & great hikes.

This is a tough one. I just tend to go with the flow and feel things out but I always show my people a good time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Where do I begin,

So many people have been influential to this journey. First off I have to thank my bestfriend Tyler Bice, who introduced me to house music and music scene in Los Angeles. Secondly, all the mentors I’ve had along the way. To name a few, Morpei, Demarzo, Lubelski, & Kamino.
Lastly, someone I hold dear to me that is no longer here, a muse and best friend, Jennifer Hanie.

All these people in many ways shaped me and helped me along the way.
