We had the good fortune of connecting with Lavelle Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi LaVelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Financial and personal flexibility in a nutshell. I’ve always been one to carve out my own path and I don’t well in environments that are too restrictive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a film composer, songwriter, business owner and whatever else I eventually add to that list. I have always been one went his own way. Never dealt with peer pressure or felt the need to follow trends. I’ve just always followed my gut, which at times put me at odds with the views of people I love. As a musician and composer I love creating work and watching others enjoying what I’ve worked diligently on. Things haven’t always gone as planned, and I guess what I’ve gotten from that is that failure is a part of the process. Just don’t let failure defeat you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a hard question because there are so many places that enjoy visiting. Definitely South Lake Tahoe, The Grand Canyon, Sedona, Manhattan Beach. If I had to choose one to do first it would be the Grand Canyon. The place is totally breathtaking and to visit is like an out of body experience. I’m an outdoorsman so natural surroundings are what I love visiting the most. As far as places to hang out for food and drink I’d say Sedona or Lake Tahoe. Many of the restaurants are nestled right among spectacular views of the mountains and the food is out of this world.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank GOD first of all for imputing the drive and interests in me to go for the things that are important to me. Also, my Wife who often supported my ventures. My eldest sister and my older brother, who were insanely supportive. There a lot of other as well, too many to name, but I wouldn’t be where I am with their support in one form or another.
