We had the good fortune of connecting with Breanna Finch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breanna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
At first, I pursued an artistic/creative career because it seemed different and interesting. I didn’t know many people that had artistic/creative careers. As a young teen, I was fascinated with Hollywood and would always watch the award shows and keep up with everything pop culture. I loved it all from Old Hollywood to present day. After graduating from college, I pursued other avenues outside of the film and production world, but always knew I wanted to be creative somehow. That’s how I started pursuing photography while also working my regular job. It’s been a really good balance of two very different realms for me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I do photography part time and it’s something I enjoy doing. After attending film school, I bought my own camera and decided I wanted to really do something with it and not only use it occasionally and have it collect dust. It wasn’t necessarily something I thought I could do because I wasn’t fully confident in it. So many people around me were telling me I should do photography while I was in between film gigs. Now, I feel much more comfortable doing it because of the many opportunities I’ve had and the sessions or events that I’ve done.

One day, I just took a leap and did some portrait photography sessions for either my family or people I knew and started posting them on my photography Instagram account. I would edit them to see what worked and what didn’t work and tried to develop my own editing style. Looking back, I’ve improved a lot. Slowly, word started to spread that I was doing photography and little by little, I would get hired by friends, family or friends of friends and family.

I would do and still do events, parties, family portraits, etc. to get more exposure and experience. I’m so thankful to the people that have hired me to do photography for them because with each session or event, I grow and learn more about myself and my work and how I can improve for the next one.

Now that I’ve changed career paths from film, I’m glad that I still have photography as my creative outlet. It allows me to meet and work with new people, learn their stories, see new locations throughout Southern California and be creative in my own way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many options in the city. A must for me is always strolling through Amoeba Music. I could spend hours there going down each aisle. Griffith Observatory is always nice to visit and take in the scenery. The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is a really cool museum filled with so much history. A Dodgers game is always a must as well. I would also find where The Burger Game food truck is and eat there. Plus, BLVD MRKT is a cool place to grab some food and hang out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have helped me along the way. My family has been supportive and encouraging of all of my endeavors and they’ve always pushed me to be the best version of myself. My uncle has been a big supporter in my life and has helped me a lot in so many ways. I would not be where I am today if it was not for him. In addition, my family and friends have been so supportive throughout my photography journey by either booking me to photograph their families or events, telling others about my photography business or even simply liking and sharing my posts to help me get more exposure to others. It’s all appreciated and I wouldn’t be here without their constant support and encouragement.
