Hi Marcia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Marcia Espenshade- REALTOR From Brazil to California: A Journey to Real Estate Success
My journey into real estate entrepreneurship began with a passion for helping others, a desire for building my own business, and a deep appreciation for finding the perfect place to call home. My story is rooted in a rich family history—my great-grandparents emigrated from Italy & Portugal to Brazil in the early 1900s, and I grew up in a household where my mother still spoke occasionally in Italian.
As the first my family to attend college, I embraced both independence and hard work early. At just 15, I started working to fund my private high school education in southern Brazil. Eventually, I moved to Rio de Janeiro to study Computer Science while juggling full-time work for a couple who were actors. During this time, my brother, a construction contractor in the United States, invited me to assist with his business, offering me the flexibility to study as well. This opportunity sparked my interest in construction and design, laying the foundation for my future career.
Determined to expand my horizons, I continued my education and earned a Business degree from the University of Houston. Several relocations across the United States was driven by my husband’s career in the energy industry, gave me insight into the home purchasing and selling processes and eventually brought us to California. I fell in love with the state’s stunning landscapes, vibrant communities, and opportunities. California’s unique blend of mountains, beaches, and diverse culture provided the perfect backdrop for my journey into real estate.
Real estate, for me, is so much more than selling houses. It’s about building meaningful relationships and guiding clients through one of the most important decisions of their lives. With my background in construction, design, searching for a new home in a unfamiliar area and business background, I bring a well-rounded perspective to the process. My education has equipped me to navigate the complexities of the industry, and my hands-on experience helps clients uncover the full potential of any property and find their dream home.
Starting my own business allowed me to combine my entrepreneurial spirit, love for connecting with people, and commitment to delivering a personalized, client-first experience. I noticed that many top agents often struggled to provide this level of attention due to time constraints. I wanted to do things differently. For me, real estate is not just a career—it’s a way to make a meaningful impact, helping clients turn their dreams into reality while celebrating the communities I call home.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My Journey in Real Estate: What Sets Me Apart

In my real estate career, I enjoy working with a globally recognized and trusted brand like Coldwell Banker. Their reputation for excellence and innovation provides a strong foundation for my business, giving clients confidence that they are working with a top-tier professional. It also gives me access to a network of the best professionals in the industry, from photographers, stagers to marketing experts, ensuring that every property I represent stands out in a competitive market.

What truly sets me apart is my personalized, client-first approach. I take pride in guiding my clients through one of the most significant decisions of their lives. Whether they’re buying their dream home or selling a cherished property, I focus on delivering tailored solutions that meet their unique needs. Additionally, my background in construction and design allows me to highlight the full potential of any property, helping buyers visualize possibilities and ensuring sellers maximize their return.

As a multilingual real estate agent, I’m proud to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds. I speak Portuguese, Spanish, and English fluently, which allows me to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with clients from all walks of life.

Getting to where I am today hasn’t been without its challenges. Early on, I learned that building a successful business requires persistence, adaptability, and a willingness to go the extra mile. One of the key lessons I’ve learned is the importance of communication and trust—clients need to feel heard and supported every step of the way.

I want the world to know that my business isn’t just about transactions—it’s about relationships, community, and helping people achieve their goals. Real estate is not only my career but also my passion. I’m excited every day to help my clients find the perfect place to call home or turn their property dreams into reality.

A Tribute to Faith, Family, and the Power of Action
When I think about the people who have shaped me into who I am today, my mother stands out as an extraordinary influence. Deeply religious and beautiful inside and out, she instilled in me the values of faith, resilience, and action. Even when she became ill when I was just 9 years old, her unwavering strength and wisdom served as a guiding light in my life.
By observing my mother’s life it taught me – that we need more doers & givers than talkers in this world. I believed that actions speak louder than words—a principle I now strive to teach my own children: my 20-year-old college student studying engineering and my 14-year-old daughter, who dreams of becoming a doctor one day. It is a personal power that I have inside of me that encouraged me to reach out, try new things, and embrace the joy of learning, reminding me that purpose comes from doing and accomplishing the work. It’s a simple yet powerful dynamic: only by putting in the effort with principles and ethics can you truly get the job well done.
My mother’s example has left an indelible mark on me, inspiring me to approach life with the same determination and grace. I also want to dedicate this shoutout to God, my church and family, whose guidance and presence have been cornerstones in my life. Together, they’ve shaped my perspective, giving me the strength to grow, serve, and thrive.
