Meet Lu Jia | Visual Designer / Multimedia Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lu Jia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lu, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk is fuel for creativity. Taking risks is about challenging boundaries until they no longer feel like risks. My path as a creative has been about breaking boundaries and leaping into the unknown—whether it’s mastering a new medium, experimenting with emerging technologies, or diving into a concept I’m only 30% clear on, with 70% left to discover. The discomfort of risk is temporary; it dissolves the moment I start creating. To me, risk isn’t fear, it’s discovery and possibility. It’s how art breathes, evolves, and transforms. What others see as a gamble, I see as the next step forward, a necessary part of growth and progress in both life and career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I take a transdisciplinary and multimedia approach as a creative, constructing parallel universes at the intersection of visual storytelling and interactive experiences. My work is grounded in a relentless curiosity for new media and emerging technologies, constantly pushing the boundaries of how ideas are expressed and experienced.
I sit in the undefined grey space between disciplines— an undefined space between industries, disciplines, and mediums. It’s a space filled with risks and uncertainty, but it’s also where the most exciting opportunities and fresh ideas are born.
Paving a new creative path isn’t easy. What I want the world to know is that creativity knows no bounds when you step beyond what’s familiar. The challenges have shaped me as much as the successes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d curate a mix of cultural exploration and hidden gems:
Day 1: Museum day—DIA Beacon, The Shed, MoMA, MoMA PS1, Guggenheim, and New Museum.
Day 2: Neighborhood exploration—Bushwick for art, West Village for charm, then discover hidden speakeasy bars.
Day 3: Food tour—Cantonese delights in Chinatown, French pastries, and ice cream spots.
Day 4: Broadway show followed by live music at Rockwood or a cozy jazz club.
Day 5: Stroll the High Line, browse Chelsea Market, and take the Staten Island ferry for amazing skyline views.
Day 6: Unwind at Central Park, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, or Prospect Park.
Day 7: Cultural food tour—Ethiopian, Indian, Dominican, topped off with rooftop drinks.
New York is all about its endless variety and ever-evolving experiences.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to the professors, bosses, and colleagues who’ve challenged me, inspired me, and refused to let me settle for “good enough.” Their perspectives sparked ideas I wouldn’t have reached alone, and their support—and yes, their harsh criticism—pushed my work to places I didn’t know I could go. Every conversation, every challenge, every tough love moment—it’s all fueled my growth and shaped the creative I am today. They didn’t just support me; they made me better.
