We had the good fortune of connecting with Sergio Armenta Luque and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sergio, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“The sea is a underwater museum still awaiting its visitors”- Phillip Diole

he thing about love is that it often drives passion, and for me, that passion is the ocean. The vast marine world holds countless species waiting to be explored, studied, and documented. This is where my photography plays a pivotal role. Through my lens, I aim to capture the beauty and intricacies of marine life, using these visuals not only to study them in detail but also to share their stories with the world. Photography is an integral part of my journey as I pursue a career in marine biology, enabling me to bridge the gap between science and storytelling.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My journey into photography began at photo meets in Los Angeles, where I first learned the fundamentals of the craft. Starting out was no small challenge—I began with a simple point-and-shoot camera that ran on replaceable batteries. Despite the limitations of my equipment, I found joy in the process and committed myself to growth.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that every expert was once a beginner. The quality of your work is not defined by where you start but by your dedication to improvement. As the saying goes, ‘Every master was once a disaster.’ It’s vital to embrace the journey, knowing that great things take time.

Another piece of wisdom I hold close is to never let anyone dictate your creative process. Photography is an art form, and your unique style is what sets you apart. As Ansel Adams once said, ‘You don’t take a photograph, you make it.’ I’ve learned to trust my vision, allowing my individuality to shine through every shot and edit.

Through patience, persistence, and an unwavering belief in my creative voice, I’ve developed a style that reflects my journey and passion for storytelling through photography.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to explore its stunning beaches, world-class museums, iconic theme parks, and breathtaking national park

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a few people who helped me in my journey Eric Aviles, Hayden Tanya Minassian, Hayley Lynn, Aiden Vasquez, Madison Joneson, Mattea, Jake , Jordan Genung they helped pushed me to never give up, they supported me when I was in my lowest felt my photography was never good enough.
