Meet Shelly Lang | Artist and Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelly Lang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelly, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I feel like the definition of professional is changing so much because socially and economically we are evolving to a varied and multifaceted market place where success, even “professional” success can look so different for each of us. So many professional structures are breaking down and I think this is a good thing. In a world where we each have a platform to share our unique talents, passions and values, I feel the more we honor our unique gifts, personal truth and values, the more we find our personal success professional or otherwise.
My vision is to create stunningly powerful art that elevates the world. My end goal is to elevate the collective culture worldwide with my art which means to bring truth to our human experience so stunningly that it shifts people in their awareness of who they are and therefore expands out having ripple effects with everyone they touch.
It would be excellent and amazing to have top gallery representation, be featured in Museums worldwide and have my work in important auctions too. Where I would love to be now and at the end of my career is to be a thriving artist creating meaningful work that I love and making more money than I could ever spend.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an emerging artist, still developing my visual language. I know it’s all in there within me and that’s what I am most excited about – what I can feel and experience in my imagination. I am excited to bring it into manifestation in inspiring and empowering art. What sets me apart from others is paradoxical. It is my willingness to be vulnerable and create from the deepest heart issues of our time and it is also the thing that paralyzes me in fear sometimes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in South Bay now out on the Palos Verdes Peninsula so we would definitely go for hikes around here and hike down to the ocean near Pelican Cove Park. After that, we’d go to a little hidden restaurant in Palos Verdes in the charming Malaga Cove Plaza and have a small breakfast. We’d definitely save another morning for breakfast on a clear day at Mar’sel at Terranea for the food, service and view.
I’d be sure to take my friend to Griffith Observatory and both Getty Villa’s and The Getty Museum. For more LA Cultural stuff we’d want to check out a screening at the Philosophical Research Society in Los Feliz and maybe hang out in the library there for a while. It is a total time warp from when the building was built in the 1930s.
For a casual but fun night out, I’d take my friend to Dama Grill for all things Falafel in Venice and then out to Warwick nightclub in Hollywood. We’d take a day to walk down Melrose Ave and do some shopping at The Grove and Westfield Century City where we’d hang out for hours at Eataly.
Another day into evening would be seeking out the secret stairs of Los Angeles with old LA mystic and charming little nooks of historic architecture details and then maybe hunt out food trucks in Glendale to top off the day. I’ve been wanting to check out the Anti Vegan Burger Club for a while.
Finally for a very cool and special meal, we’d go to Bestia in Downtown LA and also check out Hotel Figueroa for drinks before or after.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes, absolutely! I’d like to shout out to all of those mentors and coaches out there who are specifically dedicated to artists. In 2023, I won a partial scholarship to go to Venice, Italy to the European Cultural Center’s workshop for artist during the Biennale – the largest art show worldwide. To be supported by all of the, mostly women at ECA, was amazing.
While there, I also met Gita Joshi @thegitajoshi and learned of Ekaterina Popova @Katerinaspopova. These are two women sharing their talents daily on social media, through podcast, free workshops and more to help artists create the careers they love. I also met about 43 other artists, at the workshop, again mostly women, but all incredible. I definitely want to shout out to all them. We are all still on a Whatsapp thread supporting each other in our art careers.
