Meet D Nesteruk | Purveyor of Vintage & Curated Goods

We had the good fortune of connecting with D Nesteruk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi D, what’s your definition for success?
For me, success is defined not by what you achieve, but by what you overcome. The hurdles, the trial and errors, the believing in oneself and knowing your worth to continue forward, and being able to silent that static and noise that can try and pull you away from your focus. The last thing I use to define success at all times is how much someone makes monetarily. That holds zero merit in my book.

Please tell us more about your career. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Over the last handful of years I had started dabbling with resale via different online platforms. I had so many clothes from not just my closet, but my family’s individual closets and I didn’t want to just toss them out. So I started to list them on different resale apps as well as donating to Goodwill and Churches. I’m focused on sustainability and how we can help tend to our incredible planet, so that felt like a good start. After doing that for a few years it really built momentum. I started hosting Live shows through some of these resale apps and started to see the sparks fire, sort to speak. Cut to December of 2023, Daniel and I’s dear friend Betty who was also our Landlord passed away and it was time for her Family to host an estate sale before selling the house. There were some hiccups in the process of finding someone that would run the estate sale, so I had this very bold idea to help run it with them, and even somewhat lead it. I honestly don’t know how I said I would do it with them when I had zero experience, but in hindsight I think my confidence in selling is what had me blurt it out to her son Chris during a phone discussion. If there’s anything I know I’m good at, it’s being able to sell you something (I get that from my Father, Zeke). After going hard for a whole week, we practically sold everything in that house. It was incredible! I was very “off the cuff” about it and made moves based off my intuition throughout the whole thing. I turned to my Instagram stories as one of the main ways to show what was for sale and it almost immediately took on this comedic angle. I come from a Family that has a lot of personalities, characters, and vibrato. I’m originally from New York, so that speaks for itself. We aren’t afraid to be silly and just have fun. I definitely brought that forward and I think that’s where it all just clicked. I had a strong response from my online platform (mind you I have a private account and I was STILL that successful with sales) as well as the in-person Malibu community. I even shipped items to Hawaii, Virginia, and NYC. So that was a defining moment for me in showing me that I can truly sell anything. As I have written in my Instagram Bio, “I can sell a half eaten bagel.” I know my fellow NY’ers can appreciate that (wink). But I think that my approach to it, adding that level of comedy, and having no expectations for myself is really what set me apart from how others would normally conduct an estate sale. Or any sale for that matter. I was very proud of that moment. I wanted to do right by Betty and her Family, as well as help the new Landlord that was soon to move in clear out as much as possible. It was NOT easy, no. But is anything that provides a big return in life “easy” ? I don’t think so. If it was easy, more people would be doing it. After that I had someone else reach out to me as they were moving to Europe and wanted everything in their house gone within 10 days. When she reached out to me I initially felt I couldn’t do it as I had been in New York, but with her enthusiasm from seeing what I accomplished back in December, she encouraged me to do it. I had no choice but to host that one strictly virtually through my IG stories and that too was a success! That sale also incorporated all of my silly skits during the duration of the sale. I basically create these imaginative “themes” and create a storyline to who the Client is and the goods I’m selling of theirs. But my brand isn’t just estate sales, I started to pick up items off the street and resell them. I then took my services to some select friends and their boutique brands by curating certain collections that I would take to participate in different pop-ups where I would sell them. I popped up at a Malibu Retreat with vintage jewelry on behalf of the brand Le Depot Dore, as well as the Veritas Yoga Studio opening with some incredible vintage clothing items. I will basically help anyone sell what they themselves are having trouble moving within their own brand. Sometimes it just takes a new pair of eyes on something and a fresh angle. As all of this was brewing, my brand name came forward. “Jordy’s Cherubs.” I instinctively started referring to my buyers as “my cherubs” and the Jordy part….well, that’s somewhat of an inside joke. If there’s anything I want the world to know about me and my brand story, it’s that you don’t need all the answers before trying something new. I barely had ANY direction but I believe I can do anything, truly. There isn’t anything that I wouldn’t at least try if I was feeling called to do it. I also don’t care how I look or what anyone thinks of me. I beat to my own drum. There’s no time in life to subscribe to other people’s opinions. How boring and outdated. So if you can lead with confidence in yourself, and know that you’re worth taking a chance on, you don’t need much more beyond that.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow! What a fun question to ponder as I love showing people a good time. I would first take you to my Home where Daniel and I live because it has been such a labor of love, in many ways. We are so connected to the land, the backstory to how we ended up there, how we’ve sustained staying there, and the many years of nurturing the land. We have a beautiful creek that runs through and when you look up, there is a canopy of trees that umbrella the property. I would show you his outdoor art studio where he makes all of his incredible pottery and finished surfboards that he has up-cycled from recycled foam. Daniel is so gifted in glassing and shaping surfboards, pottery, watercolors, etc so I find so much joy in sharing what he creates with others. So that would be the first stop for a beautiful serene moment in nature. I would then take you for a morning beach walk at Zuma. I absolutely love Zuma beach. It’s where Daniel surfs a lot and we have quite the social gathering amongst our local tribe at Tower 12. I love walking the boardwalk every morning and seeing some of my favorite familiar faces like Zuma legend Randy who walks every morning, my favorite brothers from Michigan Wes & Kyle, an amazing Malibu surf instructor Dimitri who will get you up on a wave on your first day, our good buddy and Lifeguard Brad, and even my older sister Marguerite! After that I would swing by Abierto which is the most incredible boutique in Malibu. Whether you want the perfect card, a last minute unique gift for a friend, or a nourishing beauty product, Abierto’s owner Amanda has created a creative haven for all to indulge in. After that we would go up the main canyon road, Kanon, straight to get an adjustment from my most adored Chiropractor, Naryan Sawyers of Superhands Chiropractics. Naryan is nestled in a canyon off Mulholland Hwy up at a Ranch in Agoura Hills. He has the most incredible vista of the Santa Monica mountains with a deck that allows you to truly take it all in. He has his adjustment table outside on that deck in nature where he provides the most medicinal chiropractic session you’ll ever experience to the melodious calls of the birds that surround the space. He treats his patients from head to toe instead of isolating any one body part. He has healing hands and applies different techniques and tools that allow your body to feel supported and held. I encourage anyone that feels overwhelmed, weighed down, or simply just craving that light feeling, to get adjusted by him. From there, now that we’re all loosened up, we would walk over to The Old Place and Cornell Winery just around the corner. Two side by side OG establishments. The Old Place is actually where Daniel and I first met. So it’s near and dear to my heart. We would first pop into Cornell Winery to grab a glass of wine and peruse their amazing selection in their gift shop. And if we’re lucky, our friend Travis would be behind the bar pouring! Then we would go next door to grab seats at the bar of The Old Place. An iconic restaurant owned by an incredible family. They have something for everyone and I know I can count on their menu making any guest happy. Their bread alone is to die for. In the other days that would make up a week long visit, I would be sure to bring you to Poseidon Surf Shop in Santa Monica. They are AWESOME there and the owner Christian Shubin loves to make anyone a classic cup of coffee before renting you a board and wetsuit to take out into the surf. The shop has a great selection of apparel and surf gear. I crave a lot of that “New York, New York” energy and to refill my cup I would take you to Uncle Pauli’s Deli. He has multiple locations but we would go to the W.3rd St location. You can count on Paulie and his crew to turn out the best of the best Italian subs and nostalgic foods that a true Italian finds comfort in. It’s all love in there. An experience I would be sure to show you is a Tea Ceremony hosted by my sister Marguerite of Resonating Earth. She does both private and corporate experiences but we would hit up one of her experiences hosted at either a private property or one of the public spaces that have a zen environment. She activates all of your five senses through a guided meditation, teaches you about different plants and their medicinal properties while offering question prompts that ignite inner curiosity. You feel like you’re on cloud 9 after attending one of her Ceremonies. I would be sure to hit up BASTA Restaurant in Agoura Hills for dinner so you could have my favorite dish there which is the Bucatino. It’s absolutely delicious homemade pasta! We would definitely carve out time to see my favorite bartender, Sara, at Spruzzo Restaurant as she is the heart of that place and will automatically make you feel at home. I absolutely love going to Spruzzo just for her. The restaurant also has a beautiful back deck on the second floor that overlooks Zuma Beach. So it’s a great spot to watch the sunset with a nice glass of vino. If you were craving a night out of dancing and good times I would text Nightlife Queen, Allison Melnick. She is always hosting fun evenings full of good music and food. If Ali is there, you know it’s worth it! I’d also love to take you for a day trip north about 45 minutes to Ventura to listen to Jarocho music performed by Xocoyotzin Moraza. You will have an unforgettable night when you see him perform with his incredible multi instrumentalist Family. The passion, the instruments, and the family vibes will have you staying ’till the last song. Before you left, I wouldn’t let you leave without one last dinner at my place. I love to host, I love to bring people together, good music, good food, amazing conversations that create a vibe and let people stay all night. My cherished friends would be there, Justin St. Clair and Erik Philibrick with his boy Blazey to name a few. I guarantee you would leave with a full cup and heart.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s a solid handful of faces that pop into mind when reading that question. I want to dedicate a heartfelt shoutout to my Mother, Donna, my Boyfriend Daniel, and my older Sister Marguerite. I have a very supportive Family that extends my gratitude to my Father and younger sister as well. But to my Mother, who is a deep source of inspiration for Me. I have witnessed her start her businesses, both in her mid 40’s and as recently as the past few years in her late 60’s. She has never let age define when she can or should start something, and even if she doesn’t have all the answers when starting, she just goes for it! My Mom is a trailblazer and has showed me what it takes to start and build a business with resilience and vision. To my boyfriend, Daniel, for being a portal of creative joy and expansion since the day we met 8 years ago. He has taught me the power of being connected to my divine purpose and allowing that to reverberate into the world as a way of extending the good vibrations into the collective. To my older sister Marguerite, for proving that when you pursue what you love with purpose, you can truly make a difference. And an extra special mention to my dear friend, Emma Trask, whose wisdom and encouragement have been invaluable, guiding me with her experience and heart every step of the way!
