We had the good fortune of connecting with Mara Cherry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My intention was to reconnect people to their ancestral healing traditions while meeting them where they’re at. The birth of Jungle Mama came through the labor of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the journey toward it began much earlier. Before the pandemic hit, I had been studying herbal medicine. I’m a truth seeker so I went searching for natural ways to support my health and well-being. I was embracing the healing power of nature, but the uncertainty and challenges of the pandemic really pushed me to dive deeper into these practices and to think about how I could share them with others.

During that time, I saw so many people struggling to make sense of their health in the face of fear and confusion. While many turned to traditional medicine, I found peace in what Mother Nature provided. I firmly believe that when we turn to man-made systems for answers, we are turning our backs on Mother Nature. The more I learned and practiced, the more I felt the call to help others reconnect with those natural solutions, especially when the world was looking for ways to heal outside of the conventional systems.

I started recommending remedies to family and friends, but the resources they needed weren’t always easy to find, and when they did, they often didn’t feel accessible or practical. That frustration sparked the idea for Jungle Mama: a resource to help bridge the gap between the ancient healing practices of our ancestors and modern-day life. I wanted to create a resource that helped people embrace self-healing in a practical, approachable way. A way that honored our ancestral practices while meeting us where we are today.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets your business apart from others?
What sets Jungle Mama apart is that it was cultivated through my vision, a young Black woman who has witnessed firsthand the struggles of my own family members—my aunts, mother, cousins, uncles—who have suffered from health issues that impacted their ability to work, their mental health, and their overall right to thrive. I’ve seen how their health concerns were dismissed or mismanaged, and how they were often given treatments that only quieted the symptoms without addressing the root cause.
Jungle Mama is a return to something we’ve long abandoned—the deep, ancestral relationship to our health. We’ve been conditioned to look for solutions in hospitals and conventional medicine, but the problems didn’t start there. It started in the home, at the dinner table, through self-talk, and in our environments. The products I create aim to reconnect us to that forgotten wisdom, especially tapping into cultural practices and languages of indigenous people, as a reminder that healing is a holistic, integrated experience.
Jungle Mama is intentionally built to draw us back to our roots, back to the home of the jungle. I want people to feel that they are returning to a space of nurturing and care that has always been there, but may have been lost or overlooked over time. I invite all of us back home to mama in the jungle.

What are you most proud of or excited about?
What excites me most is witnessing the healing journey of the Jungle Mama family. One of my most popular products, Myoma Tea, which is a uterine cleanse for fibroids and ovarian cysts, has truly been life changing for many. I’m deeply passionate about reproductive health, especially given the rising challenges around fertility. I’ve worked with numerous women who’ve been struggling with fibroids, and after using Myoma Tea for about 2-3 months, I’ve seen incredible results—fibroids shrinking or passing completely. It’s a beautiful moment when clients come back to tell me their fibroid symptoms have diminished, and their doctors are left baffled!
I’ll never forget a client who had such low iron her doctor recommended a blood transfusion. After using my products, her doctor was astounded by her improved blood work and no longer recommended the transfusion. Moments like that, when people reconnect with the magic of leaves, flowers, roots, and seeds, are exactly why I do this work. To watch people rediscover their own power through nature’s gifts is most rewarding.

How did you get to where you are business-wise?
I believe I’m here to serve. There’s a saying that healers rise to their position through their own pain, and for me, that resonates. I’ve always been Mara, a truth seeker and a nurturer of others. My name, Mara, in Egyptian means “the truth of the Sun,” and I wear that with pride. The pivotal moment in my journey as a healer came when I was at my lowest. I lost everything that mattered to me at the time, and in that moment of surrender, I realized I knew nothing, but I was ready to serve and learn. I went through a time of purposelessness.
There was a moment when I didn’t even want to be here, but through that darkness, I found my way back to a desire for life by embracing my purpose of serving others. Serving others, offering what I can to nurture their wellness, is what brought me to where I am today.
I remember a conversation with another entrepreneur who was frustrated because he wasn’t seeing the success he wanted. He asked, “Where is the community? Why isn’t anyone supporting me?” And I responded, “Well, what have you been doing for your community?” In business, you must give to receive. This is apart of the Universal Principles. We can deny it and fight against the inevitable or we can embrace it. I simply chose to listen to that truth and let it guide me.

Was it easy? How did you overcome challenges?
Serving others is easy for me. But surrendering to the process and letting go of the need for a specific outcome—that’s been the challenge. I’ve found, the key is staying true to myself, leading with integrity, and being patient and consistent. Our passions exist for a reason. We aren’t called to do something that we’re not meant to do, so trusting that and letting go of what society deems “success” is crucial.
I ask myself, “When do I feel truly happy?” “What gives me peace?” “What does luxury and riches look like in my life?”. For me, I find happiness in manifesting and seeing others manifest their desires. I find peace in quiet moments, feeling the sun on my skin, connecting to earth and people I am aligned with. I enjoy the luxury of eating organic meals made with care and intention, the riches being by the water, and practicing yoga. What I value isn’t material wealth—it’s peace, presence, and wellness.
My business supports my true definition of success by allowing me to live the lifestyle I’m called to. It’s not about chasing a conventional idea of success; it’s about creating a space where I can nurture others while nurturing myself. For anyone, I’d challenge you to think about your own version of success. Ask yourself, “Why is this important to me?” Is it because it looks good in a music video, or is it something that truly resonates with your spirit?

Lessons you’ve learned?
I’ve learned that my tribe will find me. There are others doing the same thing I am, but no one else is Jungle Mama. My voice, my message, and the way I show up is meant for the people it resonates with. I’ve come to innerstand that I don’t have to change who I am to appeal to the masses. My tribe runs deep, and they will find me if I am vulnerable enough to show up authentically.
I’ve stopped trying to be everything to everyone. When I embrace my truth, the right people are drawn to it. That’s the power of staying grounded in your authenticity. Your tribe will recognize it and they’ll be there—without you having to force it. You just have to trust that and let things unfold naturally.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
At Jungle Mama, we believe in being Naked and Unashamed—in embracing our true, natural selves, unfiltered, unafraid, and unapologetic for the ways of nature. Mama was told she was naked, wild, and a savage. But what is wrong with mama being natural, unruly, and primitive? They call people of the jungle savages with a sense of arrogance. As if there is something wrong with mama being a savage. Savage means; of an animal or force of nature that is uncontrolled, untamed, or wild. Mama was the way her creator envisioned and she was healthy and happy. For too long, society has conditioned us to believe that being wild, untamed, and “unruly” is something to be ashamed of. But through my own journey of self-discovery and healing, I’ve come to innerstand that this natural state is exactly how we were meant to be.

My own journey has been one of shedding shame, especially regarding my body and my identity. I spent much of my life feeling uncomfortable, exposed, and misunderstood, all because of the unwanted attention and the pressures of a society that tries to suppress what’s organic to me. But as I began reconnecting with the wisdom of my ancestors and embracing the ancient rituals—through diet, herbal remedies, and movement—I found that the real issue wasn’t with me. It was with the world that tried to mold me into something I wasn’t.

Through Jungle Mama, I want the world to know that you are free. Free from the weight of society’s expectations. Free from the chronic pain, frustration, and fears that have held you back for too long. It’s time to give yourself permission to be free—to shed the layers that no longer serve you and reconnect with the untamed, unburdened power that lives within you. This freedom is about returning to your roots and embracing the wild, unapologetic essence of who you are.

Jungle Mama is about going back to what’s natural. Our ancestors lived, thrived, and healed in harmony with the earth. Their wisdom is still within us, waiting to be tapped into. We are not sick; we are healing, and the healing process is one of self-liberation. With the tools of the jungle—herbs, food, love, and community—we embark on this lifelong journey of becoming the healthiest, most authentic version of ourselves.

Naked and unashamed is more than just a phrase—it’s a way of being. It’s about shedding the layers of shame, fear, and judgment that society has placed upon us. It’s about reconnecting with the primal, natural wisdom that has always been part of who we are. When we return to this state, we find that we are whole, powerful, and free. There is nothing wrong with us—we simply need to return to what’s natural.

Jungle Mama is here to help you on that journey. We provide the wisdom and tools to heal yourself—from the foods that nourish your body, to the herbs that restore your vitality, to the deep sense of community that reminds you that you are not alone. Through this healing, you will find the peace to soothe your frustrations, the love to overpower your fears, and the courage to live without shame, judgment, or fear.

This is your invitation to return home—to a place where healing begins from within, where you are free to be your true self. Naked and unashamed, without apology, without fear, and without the constraints that have been placed upon you. Welcome home to the jungle, where you are always supported, always loved, and always in the process of becoming the healthiest, most liberated version of yourself

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my father, Carl Jones. He’s the one who first introduced me to herbalism and healing through nutrition. He gave me the resources, tools, and space to explore and learn for myself, always encouraging me to be a student of the craft. My dad is a lifelong learner, constantly seeking knowledge from his mentors, like Dr. Maliki York and Dr. Sebi, and that wisdom has had a profound impact on me.

Although he’s a big kid who’s worked in the world of cartoons being apart of iconic creations like The Boondocks and Black Dynamite, my father has taken health and wellness seriously. We both come from North Carolina, where we’ve seen firsthand how diet and lifestyle affect the health of our people, especially those we love. His commitment to healing through herbs and nutrition has been a personal example for me.

Whenever I was dealing with an ailment, my father was the first person I’d turn to. He’d walk me through gathering the right leaves, roots, and extracts, teaching me how to heal naturally. This process empowered me. It gave me control over my health and reminded me that I don’t have to live sick, or die from a chronic illness. I don’t have to rely on daily medications or preventable medical procedures. I can have peace with the quality of life I choose, and I can heal on my terms.

Without my father’s influence, Jungle Mama wouldn’t exist. He was my resource in learning how to heal myself and, in turn, share that wisdom with others. I’m deeply grateful for his guidance, support, and the example he’s set for me. All Expanding!
