We had the good fortune of connecting with Davidfnycountry Austine Ogbadu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Davidfnycountry, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Because I love it. Because I have been immensely touched by the works of other Creatives, Thespians, Artists in the field. Because of the messages, collaborations and impacts I want my work to have and I have seen my works have.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Thank you for these questions. I’d like to believe that what sets me apart from other Creatives is how empathic and non judgemental I’ve been told I am. And also the ability to give room for suggestions and a listening ear whenever I’m collaborating. And how resilient, career driven and passionate I am about the Arts.
What am I most proud of? Hmmm. Well, I am always very proud, and happy whenever I hear that the messages I was trying to put across with my works were delivered and not misunderstood. Or whenever I see another Creative winning.

I am still on the never ending journey of creating art with other creatives, artists and thespians, and no, It hasn’t been easy. But it’s been worth it. And how I overcome challenges as a Creative is that I repeatedly remind myself why I create art – the collaborations, the messages, the impact and the community.

One of the lessons I’ve learnt as a Creative Artist and thespian is that everything is time, especially in this when you’re a creative artist. You have to be patient and support everyone when they are winning cos your time will also come, and when it does, it’s up to you to use that platform well to create and promote transformative Art. Another lesson I’ve learnt is that you have to put God first in whatever you do.

I am always open to collaborations, always looking for stories that make people feel and string up dialogues on how we can make the world a better place. I am a Writer (Playwright, Musical Theatre writer, Screenwriter, prosaist), Actor (Screen, Radio, Voice, Stage), Director(Screen, stage, children’s theatre), and Singer(Musical Theatre Writer and composer, musical Artist) with credits “Pain,” ‘I’m in love.”“Ogiehgieh The Musical,” “Ogwu The Musical,” and “Locked Up: What is Justice?” “Rebel,” “Dear Immigrants,” “Behind These Walls,” “Just Us Two” and more.
Also, I have three books coming out this year, an EP, three feature films, two plays and a Web series. I am very humbled to be able to do these projects. I hope that when they do come out, the messages are not lost. Also, I was very fortunate and lucky to be one of the winners of the Inaugural 2023 sub-Sahara Screenplay Contest, organized by LA-based BOM PIC Global TV with my work “The Visitor.” And one of the winners of the JB Ghostwriting Contest for publication in Issue 26 of Intellectual Ink Magazine, with my work “Óná Ibíyé.”

My entire career is dedicated to the representation of Women, Marginalized groups, Minorities, pressing Social and Political issues, and African stories. I find reality, parity and relatability very valuable in my works.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ohh! This is really easy. My hometown Iyale is a wonderful place to visit, especially during the holidays or festive periods. Also, my other hometown, where my mom hails from, Jattu is just divine. I highly recommend these two places anytime.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God almighty, My family and friends, Mr Samuel Alidu’s Theatre, VO studios, Adios Creations, The Association of Nigerian Authors. Musicians United for Social Equity.
I’m shouting out to these groups and organisations because I am a part of all of them and they have impacted my life positively.
