Meet June Kochi | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with June Kochi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi June, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been fascinated by people’s stories and the power of images to capture emotions and moments in time. My thought process behind starting my own photography business was driven by a desire to connect with people on a deeper level and help them tell their stories through compelling visuals. Whether it’s weddings, family portraits, or headshots, I love the process of collaborating with clients to create images that are meaningful and lasting.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My photography is all about capturing the raw emotion of human connection, the breathtaking beauty of the natural world, the energy and excitement of live events. I strive to create images that not only document a moment but also evoke feeling and tell a story. What sets me apart, I think, is my attention to detail, use of light and shadow, ability to connect with my subjects. I’m constantly pushing myself creatively and looking for new ways to express myself through my lens. My journey to becoming a professional photographer has been a mix of passion, hard work, and a healthy dose of perseverance. It definitely wasn’t easy! One of the biggest challenges I faced was not getting recognized. To overcome that, I networked tirelessly, took workshops, sought mentorship, practiced relentlessly. I also learned the importance of resilience, adaptability, self-promotion. It’s an ongoing process, and I’m still learning and growing every day. I’ve learned so many valuable lessons, both about photography and about life. One of the most important is the power of believing in yourself, building genuine relationships. Another lesson I’ve learned is that feedback is crucial for growth, it’s okay to make mistakes, collaboration is key. I’ve also realized that success isn’t linear, it’s important to celebrate small victories. These lessons have shaped me not only as a photographer but also as a person.I want the world to know that my photography is more than just pretty pictures; it’s a reflection of my passion, my vision, and my commitment to capturing the beauty and complexity of the world around us. My brand is built on creativity, authenticity, professionalism, connection. My story is one of perseverance, growth, and the unwavering pursuit of a dream. I believe that everyone has a story to tell, and I’m honored to be able to help people share theirs through my lens. I’m constantly evolving as an artist, and I’m excited to see where my journey takes me next. Ultimately, I hope my work inspires others to see the world in a new light and appreciate the power of visual storytelling.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting LA for a week, get ready for a whirlwind tour! First, we’d ditch the car and embrace the LA vibe with a bike ride along the beach from Santa Monica to Venice. We’d explore the quirky shops and street performers in Venice, then catch the sunset from the rooftop bar at Elephante. Day two would be all about art and culture. We’d hit up the Getty Center for stunning architecture, gardens, and, of course, incredible art. Afterward, we’d wander through the LACMA and snap some pics with the iconic Urban Light installation. Dinner would be in Koreatown – so many amazing options but I love Guelaguetza and the options they have. Day three would be a hike in Griffith Park for panoramic city views and a visit to the Griffith Observatory. We’d catch a planetarium show and maybe even spot some celebrities hiking! Later, we’d explore the trendy shops and cafes in Los Feliz. Day four would be a bit of a Hollywood adventure. We’d stroll down the Walk of Fame (touristy, but fun!), visit the TCL Chinese Theatre. We’d have dinner at Yamashiro Holloywood. Day five would be a day trip to Malibu. We’d explore the beaches, and definitely grab some fresh seafood. The drive itself is stunning! Day six would be for exploring some of LA’s hidden gems. We’d check out the Last Bookstore, Indian Alley. We could grab some delicious food at Grand Central Market – so many choices! Day seven would be a relaxing day. Maybe a picnic or exploring the shops and cafes in Culver City. We could end the trip with a farewell dinner at one of my favorite restaurant, Almaza. Throughout the week, I’d also make sure to introduce my friend to some of the interesting people I’ve met here – fellow artists, musicians, and other creatives. LA is full of inspiring people, and I love connecting my friends with them. And, of course, as a photographer, I’d be snapping photos of everything along the way, capturing the memories of this epic LA adventure!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! My biggest shoutout, without a doubt, goes to my incredible parents. My story wouldn’t be possible without their unwavering love, support, and countless sacrifices. They immigrated from Afghanistan and worked incredibly hard, often multiple jobs, to provide me with opportunities they never had. They instilled in me the importance of education, perseverance, and following my dreams. Everything I’ve achieved is a direct result of their dedication and the sacrifices they made for me to have a better life. I am eternally grateful for their love and guidance, and I dedicate this shoutout to them with all my heart.
