We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Whitlock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Authenticity. Having a goal is helpful but in all honesty, remaining consistent in my authenticity and how I show up for myself has created the foundation of my success. Authenticity, gratitude and staying present in the energy of God!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer songwriter from New England. I have written a song a day since I was a child. Music always provided an escape or release that was not self harming. After enduring bullying in school, I decided to “put down the knife [because] there’s more in the pen” (parchment paper, Monica Whitlock). I will always be an advocate for self expression as well as how you do not have to destroy yourself in order to feel loved or valued. I am also someone who has lost over 120lbs in one year— through consistency and remaining firm in my habits, similar to songwriting, I am able to show up for myself and live the life I deserve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First of all, I would tell them to wait until the spring because New England in the winter is brutal! However, I would catch a local show and get Regina’s in the north end. The jungle is also one of my favorite spots!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my big sister- Sarah Elizabeth, forever 33. I love you and will always love you. I’m still doing music because of you. 1989-2022.
