Meet Nicky Cutler & Dj Meduusa Yes Ma’am Club Llc | Yes Ma’am Club Co-Creaters

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicky Cutler & Dj Meduusa Yes Ma’am Club Llc and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicky Cutler & DJ Meduusa, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Yes Ma’am Club is a trans-centered events collective in Los Angeles, founded by Meduusa (DJ) and Nicky (Host). We started throwing events together because we wanted to create safe, joyful spaces where trans people could gather, celebrate, and be celebrated. As trans rights continue to be under attack, the need for community is greater than ever—and we are committed to fostering that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We’ve been creative activists since the early 2000s. In 2004, Nicky launched DITC (Dykes in the City), one of the first clothing lines for queer women, with DJ Meduusa as the brand’s most popular model. We’ve been best friends for over 20 years. As Nicky’s identity shifted toward trans masculinity, he closed the business and transitioned into fashion work at Goorin, where he’s been for 13.5 years—fitting half of queer LA in their favorite trucker hats. He’s also been studying acting for the past three years, recently graduating from a two-year Sanford Meisner program.
Meanwhile, DJ Meduusa has been a legend in NYC nightlife for over 15 years, DJing internationally with residencies in Japan and producing music for theater in Amsterdam and Norway. His work has been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine, and he has composed music for dance companies and Drag Race queens.
We launched Yes Ma’am in LA in October 2023, building the brand with out-of-the-box trans-centered events. We started with themed parties and quickly expanded to competition events, including POLE and STRIP!—collaborations with trans masc-led promoters TDLA and Whxremones. Seeing the pride and empowerment these events create has been one of our greatest joys.
Currently, we’re in early production for KING, a drag king competition with Them Fatale Drag Kings, launching on the Sunday of LA Pride. We’re also bringing back TRANTASY ISLAND, our two-day Trans Pride pool party during WeHo Pride Weekend.
Throwing successful events takes precision, planning, marketing, collaboration, and execution. But above all, it requires people who believe in the cause. We’ve faced challenges, but we overcome them by staying true to our mission, solving problems with kindness, and never giving up.
Our biggest lesson? Believe in yourself. Have the courage to express your truest self, because authenticity is powerful—and contagious. People will join you in that energy. Choose solidarity over competition. We are stronger together. Love what you do, and do it with love. It will show in the end product and give longevity to the movement.
Trans lives matter. Trans people deserve joy, celebration, and beautiful spaces. Yes Ma’am is just one of many groups working to create these moments for our community.
