We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessy Richmond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk-taking is the most important thing when it comes to growth. If you’re not willing to take risks in life, how are you ever gonna grow? It’s the same in your career—if you wanna be the best, you have to do the things that will make you the best. DM that brand, buy that camera, upload your content, email the clients you wanna work with. There will always be one yes, but you’ll never get it if you don’t put yourself out there.

What should our readers know about your business?
My journey into the film industry actually goes way back. My aunt worked for Columbia Pictures, so as a kid, I’d tag along with her to work and get a firsthand look at the production side of things. I also got to visit places like MTV and Nickelodeon, which fueled my fascination with storytelling. But even back then, I always had a Kodak disposable camera with me, capturing moments wherever I went.
Fast forward a few years—I started my own clothing brand and was constantly looking for photographers and filmmakers who could translate my vision into visuals. But it never quite came out how I imagined. So I picked up a camera myself and started experimenting. I always say I graduated from YouTube University because that’s where I learned everything—studying my favorite creators, analyzing their angles, their cameras, their colors, and asking myself why they shot things the way they did.
It wasn’t an easy road, but it was worth it. It taught me perseverance, patience, and the power of turning an idea into reality. I learned the meaning of pushing past overload, becoming obsessed but never satisfied, and staying determined about what I create. Most importantly, I learned that motivation comes and goes, but real success comes from discipline and an unshakable drive.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love being around the water, so any trip would have to include water activities—surfing, swimming, paddleboarding. But I also love a good hike, so we’d definitely hit some scenic trails. One of my favorite stops would be a record store where you can listen to old vinyl while having a drink—something about that vibe is just unmatched.
For coffee, we’d have to get a pistachio milk latte with caramel drizzle at Urth Caffé. And for dinner, Jon & Vinny’s is a must because I’m obsessed with their pasta. It’s all about good food, good music, and a mix of adventure and chill moments.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people and things I could give a shoutout to, but the most important to me is God. He gave me the ability to create, to understand, and to inspire. The books I’ve read, the people I’ve met—they’re all a reflection of that. A reflection of how my thoughts have shaped my reality, but also a reflection of character and passion.
