Meet Ramona J. Smith | World Champion of Public Speaking, Author, Trainer, Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ramona J. Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ramona J., what matters most to you?
The most important principle is worthiness. There was a time when I didn’t charge what I was worth because, deep down, I didn’t feel worthy of it. Even as the World Champion of Public Speaking, I found myself undervaluing my expertise, afraid that if I charged my true worth, no one would invest in my services.
It was Craig Valentine, 1999 World Champion of Public Speaking, who introduced me to the book *Worthy* by Nancy Levin, and that book changed everything for me. I realized that my net worth was a direct reflection of my self-worth. That mindset shift helped me see that if I deliver a dynamic keynote or transformative coaching session in just 30 minutes, it’s not about those 30 minutes—it’s about the 10+ years I spent mastering my craft to make that transformation possible.
Now, I embrace my worth unapologetically, and I help others do the same. Because at the end of the day, the client isn’t just paying for the time—they’re investing in the years of expertise that make that time so powerful.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am honored to be 1/3 of the first female trifecta—the first time in history that three women placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the World Championship of Public Speaking. But my journey doesn’t stop there. I am a professional speaker, coach, leader, author, mother, and champion, and my mission is simple but powerful: to transform lives globally using the power of words.
I founded Ladybugs Speaker LLC, a company built on the ICARE core values: Integrity, Confidence, Authenticity, Resilience, and Excellence. Through my work, I help speakers, leaders, and entrepreneurs not just find their voice but own it, amplify it, and monetize it. I teach people how to communicate with impact—whether on stage, in leadership, or in business—so they can influence, inspire, and create lasting change.
What sets me apart? I don’t just teach people how to speak—I help them change lives. Speaking isn’t just about words; it’s about transformation. I guide my clients to step into their worth, speak with authenticity, and build the confidence to command any room.
But let me be clear—getting here wasn’t easy. There was a time when I doubted my worth. Even as a world champion, I struggled to charge my value. It wasn’t until I read *Worthy* by Nancy Levin that I realized something life-changing: my net worth was a reflection of my self-worth. That lesson reshaped my business and my mindset.
I’ve learned that success isn’t just about talent—it’s about resilience, preparation, and stepping boldly into your calling. My story is proof that when you believe in yourself, do the work, and refuse to shrink, doors will open that you never imagined.
So what do I want the world to know? That of you have a voice, you are a speaker. Your story matters. And when you speak with confidence, authenticity, and purpose, you don’t just change your life—you change the lives of everyone who hears you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, we would be in for an unforgettable week! I’d take them on a three-city journey starting in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, heading down south to my second home in Houston, Texas, and ending on the West Coast in Los Angeles, California.
We would begin in Cleveland, where I was born and raised. Our first stop would be Slyman’s Deli, home to the best corned beef sandwiches you will ever taste. It’s a Cleveland institution and a must-visit for any guest. From there, we would explore:
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – An iconic tribute to music legends.
The Cleveland Museum of Art – A world-class museum with an impressive collection.
A Cavaliers or Browns game – To experience the city’s passionate sports culture.
Dinner in the Flats East Bank – A perfect blend of fine dining and waterfront views.
Next, we would head to Houston, a city that has become a second home to me. Our day would start at The Breakfast Klub, a Houston staple famous for its southern style breakfast. From there, we would visit:
Buffalo Bayou Park – A great spot for a scenic walk along the water.
Dinner at Turkey Leg Hut – A celebrated restaurant known for its flavorful, slow-smoked turkey legs.
Spotlight Karaoke – A well known lounge with private rooms where we take turns to sing popular songs.
Finally, we would travel to Los Angeles, my current city. One of my favorite restaurants was Moonshadows in Malibu, a breathtaking oceanfront restaurant that, unfortunately, was destroyed in the LA fires of 2025. Though it no longer stands, its memory reminds me of the ever-changing nature of life and the importance of cherishing special moments. Instead, I would take my guest to:
A scenic drive along the Pacific Coast Highway – Offering stunning views of the coastline.
A hike to the Hollywood Sign – To take in the beauty of Los Angeles from above.
Santa Monica Pier – A vibrant spot for relaxation and entertainment.
Dinner at Jinya DTLA – LA’s favorite ramen bar.
Griffith Observatory – To reflect and take in the stars above the city.
This week-long journey would be the perfect blend of nostalgia, culture, and world-class dining, creating unforgettable memories across three cities that have shaped my path.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
