Meet Ivan Hruska | Singer/Songwriter/guitarist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivan Hruska and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ivan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
This is actually a funny question because I originally wanted to retire from music when I moved to LA and put my focus on film. However, I realized that not doing something you have been doing your entire life is nearly impossible. I just did what I’ve done most of my life and wrote music and just watched where it would guide me. I was never anticipating that I would be more successful than I ever was with music. So to answer your question honestly – there was absolutely no thought process at all.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The most important thing about being an artist is absolute persistence and patience. Things rarely happen over night and putting the work in is most important. Make sure you sound good, write to all the places you want to play repeatedly and don’t be upset if you end up playing in front of 6 people at first. You will never play in front of a sold out crowd if you haven’t played infront of a smaller audience

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s start off with the Sunset Strip – Whisky a Go Go, Rainbow Bar and Grill and The Viper Room. So much Rock n Roll history. It’s spectacular.
Of course we’re gonna stroll down the boulevard and see Hollywood n Highland, The Beetlehouse, Escape Hotel n so on.
Take them shopping on Melrose. Get some food there too. That general area where Catch, Cecconi’s, EP & LP and so on is. That’s the best food in Hollywood. See a movie at the new Beverly.
Later on we party on Santa Monica Boulevard. I might even take them to Downtown LA and show em my favorite bar/distillery – The Obscure.
What makes LA so special – Especially Hollywood is that our landmarks are still operating. That’s not the case in most cities

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely all the people I make music with: my Hollywood Apocalypse people: Lisa, Celinda, Roland, Sky, Philip,
And Death of a Nightingale: Emily Lopez
