Meet Jack Knight | Songwriter | Producer | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jack Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jack, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was apart of several companies like universal, sony, Emi, Bad Boy, Arista, where i contributed to their bottom lines in the millions of dollars. Forming my own company and following the same exact creative formula, was the obvious nex step.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started as a rapper, and gradually moved into melody, lyrics, and songwriting for other artist. Initially i was an artist signed to Joseph Simmons (rev run) production company on def jam records in 1995, then i moved to universal records as an artist /songwriter producer for many of their acts like Monifah, heavy d, chico debarge, joe, and many more in 1996. In 1997 i had a few major singles out like touch it ( by monifah) shorty ( by imajin) and sittin home ( by total) this activity grabbed the attention of Evan Lamberg of Emi and Sean Combs of Bad boy. I was jointly signed by both companies as a songwriter where my career has taken me on amazing journey. I wish i was privy to the business of music along the way, however my talent and longevity had allowed me to pivot and position my finances and business dealings in a more self sustaining way. Starting my record label Made In East New York has enabled me to own and sub-licence my first worldwide gold record called ” Touch it” ( by kidi) ironically the same name as my first hit record touch it for Monifah 20 years prior. Kidi is from ghana, and for me being black american to partner with someone direct from africa was a major challenge yet with social sites like triller, meta, tiktok, i was able to circumvent alot of the barriers and gatekeeping. Moving forward i plan to return to my roots of that new york style R&b and hip hop, yet i still want to sign artist from brazil, latin america, india, and other countries in africa like uganda, kenya, tanzania, sudan, Sa, ect . I want my brand to eventually evolve into a creative Bank providing funding for artist and creatives outside of just music as the creative sector has so many ways to provide jobs in closely related industries like fashion, sports, spirits, food, and many other industries.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Northhollywood on magnolia and blakeslee has so many cool bars, lounges, asian eateries, fusions foods, ect all along that strip.
Here in mesa / newport the beaches, resturaunts, parks like miles square, tewinkle park, and greater irvine park is
Good to go.
The oc fair is always hosting events, food festivals, amusement rides, also we have disneyland close by which is major attraction for my kids, and great adventure which is close by as well. But the main i would take them too is temecula, ca where it feels like your in italy from the weather, the wineries, food, and architecture.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Village of East New York, Brooklyn where i was born and raised was largely responsible for my eclectic taste in music, Fashion, Food, and Family. That area of new york is very homegenous consisting of black, jewish, latin, and indian cultures so my parents were able to expose me to so much as a child.
