Meet Aashni Tulsian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aashni Tulsian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aashni, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most people don’t realize just how far ahead the fashion industry works. While you’re shopping for this season’s trends, designers, brands, and buyers are already deep into planning for next year. In fact, the trends you see in stores today were likely predicted over a year ago.
Fashion forecasting isn’t just guesswork—it’s a mix of data analysis, cultural research, and intuition. Platforms like WGSN, runway shows, street style, and even TikTok trends help forecasters predict what colors, fabrics, and silhouettes will be popular months in advance. Brands then use these insights to design collections, source materials, and get production rolling—long before you even think about updating your wardrobe.
But here’s the catch: fashion moves fast. While consumers take their time deciding what to buy, the people behind the scenes are working on tight deadlines to make sure collections are designed, produced, and delivered on schedule. Creativity and speed have to go hand in hand.
So, the next time you see a “new” trend, just know—it’s been in the works for over a year, carefully planned and executed in a race against time. Fashion isn’t just about style; it’s about staying ahead of the curve.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career in fashion has been shaped by a combination of creativity, perseverance, and the support of incredible mentors and organizations. From an early age, I was drawn to textiles and design, and that passion led me to The New School Parsons, where I had the opportunity to explore innovative techniques, refine my vision, and push the boundaries of what fashion could be.
One of the defining moments of my journey was working with WholeGarment Shima Seiki machines at Arvind Fashion Limited in India. This experience introduced me to the power of technology in sustainable, high-precision knitwear production. It reinforced my belief that fashion can be both innovative and responsible—a philosophy that continues to guide my work today.
At Loeffler Randall, I’ve been able to bring that vision to life. Overseeing the production of fully fashioned knit garments along with creative woven garments, I’ve had the chance to merge traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques, particularly in projects like our Fall/Winter 2024 collection, where we experimented with luxurious cashmere, intricate embroidery, and cut-and-sew knits. Seeing an idea go from concept to reality is what excites me most, and I’m grateful to work with a team that values creativity and innovation.
Of course, the journey hasn’t been easy. The fashion industry is fast-paced and highly competitive, and working on tight deadlines while staying ahead of trends requires constant learning and adaptability. But I’ve learned that success comes from staying true to your vision, embracing challenges, and being open to innovation. I’ve also realized that the best work happens when you have the right support system—mentors, colleagues, and organizations that believe in your ideas and give you the space to grow.
More than anything, I want the world to know that fashion is about more than just trends—it’s about storytelling, craftsmanship, and impact. Whether it’s through embracing sustainable production methods, advocating for diversity and inclusivity, or pushing the boundaries of design, my goal is to contribute to an industry that values creativity with purpose. Fashion should inspire, empower, and evolve, and I’m excited to be part of that movement.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting NYC, I’d want to give them the perfect mix of food, culture, relaxation, and the city’s undeniable energy. We’d start the trip with dinner at Buddakan, where I’d make sure they try my absolute favorite tofu dish. The ambiance is stunning, and it’s the perfect place to kick off an unforgettable week. After dinner, we’d take a stroll through Soho, wandering through boutiques, visiting a few art galleries, and stopping by a cozy bookstore or café to wind down for the night.
The next day would be all about Central Park. We’d spend the morning walking around, taking in the greenery and escaping the city’s hustle for a while. I’d set up a picnic with painting supplies, so we could relax, paint, and soak in the sun—a creative reset in the middle of one of the world’s busiest cities.
A wellness day would be a must, so we’d start one morning with an intense hot yoga class, because nothing beats that feeling of being completely refreshed after a good session. Afterward, we’d stop by Dialogue Coffee for a matcha, sit outside if the weather allows, and just take our time catching up.
Of course, we’d need to experience NYC’s incredible dining and nightlife. One evening, we’d go for rooftop drinks at a place like Westlight in Williamsburg or Manhatta downtown, soaking in breathtaking views of the skyline. Another day, we’d dive into the city’s art scene, visiting The Met, MoMA, or The Whitney, depending on the mood. If we’re feeling adventurous, a speakeasy like Please Don’t Tell (PDT) or a live jazz show at Dizzy’s Club would be the perfect way to spend the night.
To round out the trip, I’d take them to Jack’s Wife Freda or Buvette for a cozy, laid-back brunch, followed by more wandering around the city, letting ourselves stumble upon hidden gems. NYC is all about balancing high-energy moments with slow, meaningful ones, and this itinerary would give my best friend the perfect mix of both—great food, creativity, movement, and time to truly take in the magic of the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a huge part of my journey to Loeffler Randall and The New School Parsons—two places that have played an instrumental role in shaping my career.
Parsons gave me the foundation to explore and experiment, pushing me to refine my creative vision while grounding it in real-world application. It was there that I first discovered my love for innovative knitwear techniques and sustainable production methods, which would later define much of my work.
Loeffler Randall has been a place where I’ve been able to bring those ideas to life. I’m incredibly grateful to the team for trusting me, encouraging me, and giving me the creative freedom to experiment, problem-solve, and grow. The fast-paced world of fashion can be intense, but having a space where innovation is valued and craftsmanship is celebrated has made all the difference.
To everyone at both Parsons and Loeffler Randall—thank you for believing in me, for the guidance, the mentorship, and the opportunities. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.
