Today we’re excited to be connecting with Cat Sherwin again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.

Cat, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
Hi, I’m Cat Sherwin, I’m an English Australian Makeup Artist, Hairstylist and Groomer working in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. With over 20 years experience in my craft, I have worked consistently on advertising & commercials, publicity junkets, promos, red carpet events, television, corporate events & conferences, music videos, infomercials, editorial and e-commerce for much of my career.

My early career began in Sales & Marketing in the automotive industry, following the preferred path of my family. After 7 years, I went traveling around the world and settled in Australia, where I changed my life, and my work, to follow what was once a childhood dream of being a Makeup Artist.

Extremely passionate about my work, tenacious, hard working and determined, I’ve built my dream across countries and continents, and am gifted at communicating and working across cultural borders and diverse working environments, with people at all levels of an organization. The USA has now been my home for 10 years. Although I’m based in LA, I work and travel interstate and internationally.

Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
Since we last chatted the entertainment industry has experienced a number of challenges. California was particularly hard hit by shut downs relating to the pandemic, strikes and more recently fires. At times it’s been hard not to slip into fear, and I love my work, so am frustrated if I’m not in a flow.

However, I believe within every challenge lies an opportunity and the last few years have encouraged me to evolve and grow. I’m constantly looking at where I can improve my service, better my skills and meet new people.

I’ve always been pretty social media shy and my preferred place is the other side of the camera, but social media is a tool and I’ve really pushed myself this year to make consistent videos and content on a new spin off IG account @insideoutwithcat. It’s been a personal challenge, and I’m still learning. I often feel I still suck (and I probably do!), but then I look at how far I’ve come, and how my speed and confidence have built, and now how quickly I can make and edit videos; I realize I’ve developed a lot. The challenge is to keep going with few followers and not much feedback except from a few hard core supportive friends, but you just have to keep moving forwards “just keep swimming!” I’ve joined a writing community and started to write a book, which is another passion – and challenge of mine. I’ve also trained in Reiki Holy fire to bring in a holistic and healing approach to my makeup and grooming work, where appropriate.

Alright, so let’s do something a bit more fast-paced and lighthearted. We call this our lightning round and we’ll ask you a few quick questions.

What do you want people to remember about you and your brand? What are some of things that you feel are most important, unique, special, etc?
Authenticity and depth. Helping clients generate real feelings of beauty from within that radiate out to, and integrate with their exterior look, that we collaborate together to create.
I work in the business of beauty, which some may say can be superficial, especially in Hollywood. But beauty has so many different layers and meanings to different people and cultures, that have evolved throughout the ages. We’re coming into a time where where there is a real movement to health and wellbeing and what we put into our bodies, and an aligning with spiritual practices that integrate our body mind and soul.

I believe beauty is a vibrant living inner essence and life force, that is created through an integration and harmony of what’s inside as much of the outside. Of course, I love to be known for beautiful makeup application, but my goal is to leave behind a legacy of true inner beauty work, that leaves the client forever changed in a real, beautiful way. I love Mother Theresa’s quote “Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”
