We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Checket and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been a creative! Art class was my favorite in elementary school. As I got into highschool, I was really into fashion design. As hobbies throughout my adult life, I loved painting, crafting costumes for festivals, sewing my own garments, and I always had a digital camera in my hand. One day a few years ago, I decided to pick up a DSLR camera and haven’t put it down since!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s crazy, when I met people they usually assume I work professionally as some sort of creative. I actually work full time in finance! I support our Compliance department who serve a large network of independent financial advisors. I got into this line of work by chance over 10 years ago and felt it fit my lifestyle. I wouldn’t say it’s my passion, but it allows me to do the things I love when I’m not working. I believe that’s why I crave so many different hobbies and outlets when I am off the clock!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My family and I are such beach bums so we spend a lot of time at the beach. I also play beach volleyball so our week of fun would definitely be centered around beach activities. Before kids, a perfect day would be a morning volleyball session, then brunch and maybe some bottomless mimosas! Then we’d either head back to the beach to continue a day in the sun or freshen up and head out to a cool, vibey lounge/ bar/ restaurant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband is my biggest supporter. I can never sit still and I always have a new hobby I want to try out, he is always encouraging and will coordinate our schedules to allow me to experiment with whatever it is I want to dabble in (it’s tougher these days with a toddler and another baby on the way— but he makes it happen even with his insanely busy schedule!)
