Meet Jacquelyn Frohlich | Writer/Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacquelyn Frohlich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jacquelyn, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk taking has been integral to my life and a determining factor to the opportunities that have come my way. This is as true in my personal life as it is in my career. I am not quite reckless though, but almost.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got my MFA in fiction and spent countless years writing novels that I couldn’t get published, so it was a bit of a surprise to everyone (including to even myself), when I decided to venture into film. I started slowly: one short at a time, eventually leading to my recent feature film debut, Wayward. And I will say that the biggest thing I learned from this journey is that nothing is wasted.– even the things that I had deemed as failures — especially the failures, actually — added up to something beautiful that I could never have predicted, And I feel like I’m just getting started!:)
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is so much to LA that people often miss when they are visiting, so you almost have to know a local that can take you around. Here are my top suggestions- Back on the Beach in Santa Monica for breakfast and the best scones in the planet, followed by a hike in Griffith Park which can take you all the way to the Hollywood sign. If you are still hungry, I would return to the westside to the Brentwood Country Mart, where you can choose stellar Mexican at Frida Taco or the best chicken tenders and fries in all of Los Angeles at Redi Chick Rotisserie. If you are into museums I would not miss either the Hammer, the Getty, or LACMA, all of which will blow your mind in different ways. Drinks at the Tower Bar and then for a late dinner, I would suggest Giorgio Baldi where you can’t go wrong no matter what you order. Another great option is Takao, for best sushi, that’s also the coziest spot. The beauty of LA is that it offers everything.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to Jerome Badanas, my mentor in graduate school . He not only believed in me (especially when there was minimal evidence that he should), but he made me believe in myself. He died shortly before I graduated, many years ago, but I still think of him almost every day. And definitely my life would have been different had I not known him.:)
