We had the good fortune of connecting with Tabitha Candelaria and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tabitha, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Ever since I was a child I was drawn to my creative side. I was constantly drawing, writing, altering my clothing… I ventured into many creative avenues throughout my childhood. I just knew that no matter what I did “when I grew up,” it had to be something creative. That’s where I thrive. That’s where I’m happy.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art, or really my skincare brand, is all about bringing the fun, the color, the glitter & the spiritual healing to the monotonous routine of skincare and selfcare. Maybe you’re in the process of healing your eczema, your acne that just won’t go away or you need to detox from the toxicó in your life. I have created products that help with all these things.

These things can be embarrassing and uncomfortable, but many of us suffer through it. I know because I have suffered with eczema for 20 years now. It’s not fun, so I try to shine a light and make it a less painful thing to deal with.

Velvet Rainbow was all something that has unfolded and evolved for me in a very natural way. I think that’s why the soaps do work and I think that’s why it’s all very successful. It translates well because while it’s fun and pretty, there’s no gimmick. It’s all coming from a place of authenticity and soul. It’s the real deal and is always made with the best intentions.

I want people to know that throughout my lifelong struggle with allergies and eczema, I’m just out here creating things the younger version of me wish existed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve had friends visit me throughout the decades and while my tastes and preferences have evolved, one thing remains. I absolutely love being by the water.

I love to take people for a beautiful lengthy drive up and down PCH. I know the drive will never be the same after the fires, but the feeling you get by being by the water and driving? Nothing compares. So I know a drive down Sunset Blvd. to PCH then down to the South Bay to grab some Fire Chiefs at Old Tony’s. 🍹

Daytime/ morning ventures would include some hike to Amir’s Garden in Griffith or Escondido Falls in Malibu. Possibly even spend a day at the Huntington Library. I went there often as a kid and it’s very beautiful.

For nighttime ventures, I love me a good rooftop. Some of my favs are Perch (DTLA), Mama Shelter (Hollywood) and Broken Shaker (DTLA). For another day, I’d take them to some classic Tiki Bars, TikiNo and TongaHut. Can you tell I love cocktails? Hahaha

And of course no trip to LA is complete without a visit to the big mouse himself. Disneyland is a must! Ears, hats and all.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my family! While there are many many artists on both sides of my family, my parents aren’t necessarily creatives themselves. They also don’t always understand my vision or what I’m cultivating, but they always, always, always support.

I think many creatives are often misunderstood, and that’s something I’m 100% okay with. But having that support or those people in your life that say, “I can’t visualize this but I trust you and your ability to bring it to life” that right there makes ALL the difference. So yes, my family, thanks for always being behind my millions of ideas and projects, haha.
