We had the good fortune of connecting with Nabeeh Shamieh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nabeeh, how do you think about risk?
Risk is something that is essential when it comes to this line work as I live by the phrase “If I won’t, who will”. In order for me to succeed in the areas that I would like to I need to bite the bullet and try something that I’ve never done before. Take those inspirations of stills or photos that I’ve dreamt of and find a way to bring to fruition in my own style. Furthermore my father always taught me that in whatever work I do even if its the little things always give it my 120% effort as what’s the point of doing it halfway. Only living in Los Angeles for almost two years I’ve taken a couple risks that have payed off in my career as well where I stand in this industry. Confidence as well is another aspect that is boosted when the risk is taken as if it does pay off, you know for a fact you can try something else and have that end goal to succeed. Manifesting the success as well is a big part of it when applying yourself to new jobs or work that is considered a “risk”. Having these doubts or “what if” scenarios in your head will automatically begin your downfall when it comes to being a creative/entrepreneur.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others in terms of my photography and creative eye is the subjective experiences that I’ve had as a person. Obviously we’ve all lived different lives and have experienced all sorts of events whether it be good or bad. Its the learning that we do from these events that shape us into what we are. I essentially took these life lessons and applied them to how I approach the business side of this industry, furthermore how I composition my work. Additionally my love for music has influenced the say I compose my shots, structure my edits and every step in this creative process. I say this as my culture is heavily music orientated with heavily expressing your voice or dancing furthermore my father introduced me to all sorts of music’s crossing various genres. Music became an escape for me as discovering new artist and new sounds was something I would do in my free time. In addition when it comes to editing, music plays a heavy part into creating any kind of video. Whether it be a promo for an event to editing action sequences in short films. Every post on my Instagram will always have a song that I believe matches the aesthetic and can give the viewer an immersive carousel when observing. What I’m most proud of is the eye or aesthetic that I’ve developed from just taking photos everyday as well using photography as method of expression of me as a person. Developing my personal aesthetic wasn’t an issue as using editing and photography as a pipeline to display what I see in my daily life when I’m taking a walk or looking for a certain shot. I try to stay in the moment which is a lesson that I’ve learned and am still continuing to practice as it really makes you appreciate everything one has. Combining this with having my camera or iPhone camera in hand was an efficient way into creating my “look”. I want the world to know that my story of perseverance, resistance and dedication will completely change whatever avenue of creativity I apply myself to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I certainly have applied to this to many people who have visited me and are not sure what to do on a sunny Saturday. Here’s where I would take them, first off I would take them somewhere grand like the Getty Museum in Santa Monica or Los Angeles or if they are into collectibles I would take them to Frank and Sons in the City of Industry. After this grand location I would usually take them somewhere to eat, if we were in Los Angeles locations would typically be Hungry Joes which is some of the best Jamaican food in Los Angeles. If they’re feeling Middle Eastern food I’d take them to Zankouh Chicken as its my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. I love taking my friends and family to certain lookout locations that I’ve found from just driving around. This all stemmed from exploring the Los Angeles County in the summer time multiple times throughout the week.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My group as a whole I can most definitely shoutout, when I say group I mean my friends and family who are constantly supporting me in every photo that I post. Every post on my Instagram has been flooded with love by my people as well others who have shared my work. However the the most important shoutout I can give is to my Mother and Father. Who have believed in me ever since I was a child and told them I wanted to be a Youtuber, this dream morphed in the creative field of photography/videography. I always call them when I get called for jobs to which they always express their love and support for me. I can’t thank them enough as there hard work for first raising me with a open outlook on life as well the hustle to be self made in a profession I’m passionate about. I do all of this for them first as well myself as being a first generation Arab male in my family to graduate from college means a lot to me and I want to consistently show them that the sacrifices they’ve made have not gone to waste.
