We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiaira Jones-Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiaira, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my nonprofit was deeply personal and rooted in my own experience with loss. After my dad passed away, I always dreamed of creating something meaningful in his honor—something that would help others heal the way I was trying to. For years, I carried the idea of starting a nonprofit for fatherless daughters, but it wasn’t until 2023 that everything finally aligned and the time felt right.

What really pushed me forward was the realization that I wasn’t alone. At the time of my dad’s passing, I didn’t notice that almost all of my friends were also fatherless in some way, and even my mother had no relationships with her father, leaving her fatherless in a completely different way. That awareness opened my eyes to how common yet unspoken this experience is. It made me think: if we’re all carrying this pain, why isn’t there a space for us to process, connect, and grow together?

After several starts and stops over the years, I finally felt ready. My thought process was not just about starting a business—it was about creating a supportive community that I wish had existed when I needed it most. That’s how A Sisterhood for Fatherless Daughters came to life: as a space for healing, empowerment, and connection through shared experience.

What should our readers know about your business?
Starting A Sisterhood for Fatherless Daughters has been one of the most rewarding and challenging journeys of my life. What sets us apart is that we’re not just an organization—we’re a healing space, a safe sisterhood rooted in shared experiences. We create programs and moments that empower girls and women to transform pain into purpose, reminding them they’re not alone in their journey.

When I began, I had absolutely no experience in the nonprofit world. I didn’t know how to start—let alone run—a nonprofit organization. I just had a dream and a calling, and that calling became even clearer after losing my dad and later my brother. I realized that I wasn’t the only one carrying the weight of fatherlessness—many of my friends, even my mom had similar stories. So, I knew this work mattered.

The journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve had to learn everything from the ground up, from fundraising and grant writing to program development and nonprofit management. The nonprofit world is so different from the traditional business world, and every day I’m still learning. But even with the challenges, the work is deeply fulfilling. Getting invited to events, building relationships with people who truly align with our mission, and seeing the impact we make—it keeps me going.

What I’m most proud of is that this organization exists because I refused to give up on the dream. And now, it’s not just my dream anymore—it belongs to every girl and woman who has ever felt unseen, unheard, or unsupported because of a father’s absence.

What I want the world to know about my story and my brand is this: A Sisterhood for Fatherless Daughters is proof that beauty can come from brokenness, that healing is possible in community, and that purpose can rise from pain. This is more than a nonprofit—this is a movement, and we’re just getting started.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who have shaped my journey, but my biggest shoutout goes to my two nieces, Erin and Ellie—my late brother’s daughters. They are truly my heart and the reason I keep going. After losing their dad, I saw parts of my own story reflected in theirs, and it lit a fire in me to make sure they, and other girls like them, have a space to be seen, supported, and empowered.

They inspire me every single day with their strength, their laughter, and their ability to still find joy in the midst of loss. Watching them grow reminds me of why I started A Sisterhood for Fatherless Daughters—to turn pain into purpose, and to ensure no girl feels like she has to navigate fatherlessness alone. This movement is for them, and because of them.
