Meet Sam Skolnik | Comedian, Actor & Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Skolnik and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I first started as a stand up, actor and filmmaker, I didn’t understand why anyone wanted to do anything else. I was legitimately confused why everyone wasn’t acting or doing comedy. I would talk to people and be like, “oh cool that you work in marketing, but like what do you really do?” All that to say, I didn’t see myself going any other direction. I’m diversified in the creative/entertainment space, but all I want to do is make things!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a comedian and actor and filmmaker. I like to make things! I like to make people laugh! I think the real reason why I do it is because I get an extreme satisfaction in connecting with other people. When my jokes land, when someone is affected by a film, that’s what makes it worth it to me. I’m not sure what sets me apart, I just want to make/write/create good stuff that I’m really proud of that connects with people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not a big beach person. I really enjoy the east side of LA. I would take my bff to really cool restaurants like Bodega Park or Donna’s or Quarter Sheets or The Thai Market in the Valley or for Ramen…. I think I just like to eat when I show people around.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Duuuude, there’s so many people I could attribute where I’m at to. As someone who has had small wins, I hesitate to say I have success. I view my creativity as a slow moving train that plows through obstacles in slow motion–but keeps frickin chugging. Part of my continued motion is listening to the people around me in the creative space and picking out little gems of advice to put in my back pocket. That being said there are so many people I could attribute my Shoutout to. But they are mostly my friends! Here are a few:
– My wife KT 🙂
– My family
– The Slice Crew
– The Straws
– Groundlings
– Bad Neighbor Studios
