Meet Jo Yang | Floral Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jo Yang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jo, what are you inspired by?
I find inspiration in everything that surrounds me. I truly believe that every object, every fleeting moment, and every corner of life carries a story waiting to be discovered. I don’t confine my sources of inspiration to just nature or other floral designers—my curiosity stretches across all art forms: paintings, architecture, photography, music, and more. There’s beauty in the way different disciplines speak to each other.
Nature, of course, remains my greatest canvas. Its endless palette of colors, textures, and forms offers an incredible variety of ingredients to work with. Each flower, each stem of foliage, holds its own character and rhythm, and what excites me most is the challenge of weaving these elements together to find harmony and connection.
For me, floral design is not just about arranging flowers—it’s about translating the subtle stories and inspirations around me into something tangible and meaningful. It’s a continuous, joyful exploration.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been drawn to art. Growing up, I studied drawing, painting, and graphic design, eventually earning a BFA in graphic design with a focus in motion design. That creative journey taught me how to tell stories visually, and now working with natural ingredients feels just as exciting and meaningful as designing on a digital platform.
During the pandemic, while working from home, I felt the desire to explore something new and hands-on. I’ve always loved flowers, so I thought, Why not try making arrangements? That simple curiosity led me to open a social media account to document my journey, and that’s how Mohé was born. Mohé is a pure Korean word meaning “sunlit corner” or “the sunlight that gently touches the corner.” I chose this name because I believe life is made up of corners—whether it’s turning into a brand new chapter or pausing in a quiet, ordinary moment. I wanted Mohé to bring warmth, joy, and a bit of light into those spaces.
That’s become the heart of our brand: creating thoughtful, meaningful floral designs that celebrate all of life’s corners—whether big milestones or simple, everyday joys. I’m truly grateful to now be part of those moments for my clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many amazing places to explore in LA, but if my best friend were visiting, I’d definitely want to take them to some of my favorite spots. We’d start with the incredible local museums—LACMA, The Broad, and MOCA—each offering a different perspective and such inspiring collections. I’d also love to take them to Old Town Pasadena, where I lived during my college years. It’s a special place to me, filled with charming streets, cozy coffee shops, and great restaurants—it’s the perfect spot to spend a slow afternoon.
No trip would be complete without a visit to the LA Flower Market. The energy there is unmatched—it’s bustling, colorful, and filled with the most beautiful variety of flowers and foliage. After soaking it all in, we’d definitely grab breakfast at Poppy + Rose right next door. Their fried chicken and waffles are an absolute must.
It would be a week filled with good art, good food, and beautiful flowers,

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m incredibly grateful for the florist community that surrounds me. I’ve been so fortunate to meet and connect with kind, supportive people—from the friendly flower vendors at the market who always greet me with smiles and share their knowledge, to the talented floral designers who generously offer advice, answer questions, and are always willing to lend a hand when I need it. I also couldn’t do what I do without the amazing freelancers who step in to help bring large events to life—they truly make a difference. And of course, I have to give a special shoutout to my husband, who, despite getting a little grumpy sometimes, is always there to help, support, and make sure I’m taken care of. I really wouldn’t be where I am without this incredible circle of people.
