Hi Jen, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Organization is essential to the success of an interior designer. From managing timelines and budgets to coordinating vendors, deliveries, and client preferences, every detail must be tracked with precision. A well-organized designer ensures that projects run smoothly, deadlines are met, and unexpected challenges are handled efficiently. Organization also fosters creativity by allowing designers to focus on aesthetics without being overwhelmed by logistical chaos. Ultimately, it builds trust with clients, streamlines communication, and transforms a vision into a seamless, well-executed reality

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a fourth-generation Los Angeleno and founder of The House of Porter, my life’s work has always centered around the art of creating home—whether through thoughtful interior design, building beautiful, functional spaces, or curating bespoke living experiences for our clients.

For over 25 years, I’ve had the privilege of helping families design and build homes that are both deeply personal and effortlessly timeless. Our family-run business has been rooted in the belief that a home is more than just a place—it’s where stories unfold, memories are made, and life is truly lived.

Today, this mission takes on an even deeper meaning as my son, Oliver, joins me in expanding our services to include real estate services.

Together, we are proud to join our parent group, Dynamic Properties, as local, generational real estate brokers. This is a natural extension of what we’ve always done—guiding people in creating, transforming, and now finding the place they call home.

In the wake of the Palisades fires, our commitment to this community is stronger than ever. Oliver and I are honored to help families who have been impacted—whether that means finding a new home, rebuilding, or starting fresh. With our combined expertise in design, home-building, and real estate, we offer a comprehensive, thoughtful approach to every step of the process—turning uncertainty into possibility and houses into homes.
One of my most memorable projects to date was a breathtaking 40,000 sq. ft. custom home for a celebrity client—an undertaking that challenged and inspired me in the best possible ways. I’m known for being hands-on and detail-obsessed, often working around the clock to ensure that every element of a space feels just right. My style ranges from modern farmhouse and European country to contemporary, and I love creating homes that feel effortlessly timeless, warm, and lived-in. Whether sourcing custom-made furnishings or uncovering the perfect vintage find, I bring a mix of California sensibility and global inspiration to every space.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles has so many excellent places to explore. A few of my favorites are below
Beverly Hills Hotel Polo Lounge
for lunch or The Maybourne’s Dante’s for pizza! The Ivy is always great too.
If I feel like taking a little bit of a road trip, I’ll drive an hour and a half north to Montecito to Rick Caruso’s Miramar Rosewood Hotel, FYI dogs are welcome.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe so much of my journey to the incredible clients I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years. Their trust, collaboration, and shared vision have not only shaped the spaces we’ve created together but have also shaped me as a designer and a person. Each project brought new challenges, inspiration, and opportunities to grow—none of which would have been possible without their belief in my work. I’m deeply grateful for their support, encouragement, and the creative freedom they’ve given me. This chapter of my story is as much theirs as it is mine, and I wholeheartedly dedicate this shoutout to every client who’s been part of the journey.
