We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Goddard And Julie Kijewski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla Goddard and Julie Kijewski, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Both of us came from corporate backgrounds and later transitioned into the start-up world, so we had the chance to experience a range of different business environments. Over time, we realized we had built a solid foundation of experience, resources, and connections, and it felt like the perfect moment to take that and build something of our own. We wanted the freedom to shape the kind of work we do, the people we work with, and ultimately create something that reflects our values and vision. As opportunities came to us, starting our own business felt like the natural next step.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Burrow Consulting is full-service creative marketing agency – we help our clients with everything from brand strategy and execution, experiential production and gifting campaigns, live events, digital marketing & partnerships. Our agency has been built on a whole lot of hustle, creativity, and collaboration. After 10+ years in the marketing industry, we got to where we are today through trial and error, a solid work ethic and the support of an amazing network of partners who believed in us. The road hasn’t always been smooth, there have been plenty of late nights, tough calls and moments of doubt but we’ve always known we are building something with purpose. What keeps us going is the excitement of new projects, where we get to stretch creatively, solve real problems and bring big ideas to life. Our families are the driving force behind everything we do, they give us the motivation to push harder, dream bigger, and build a legacy we’re proud of. Some things we’ve learned along the way are –

*Trust your gut (it’s usually right).
*Stay scrappy – resourcefulness & agility wins every time.
*In our younger years, it was ‘say yes to everything to build your experience’, now we’re learning not every opportunity is the
right opportunity (and that’s okay).
*Your network is everything – surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you.
*Creativity thrives in chaos, but a good Google Sheet doesn’t hurt either.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best part of LA is the food, hands down. It’s where street tacos and Michelin stars live in harmony and every neighborhood has its own flavor (literally). We love The Belmont in West Hollywood for meetings & team outings – great indoor / outdoor space and we can always get a table on the patio. They have the best thick cut fries in town and make sure to ask for their array of dipping sauces, you can thank us later!

We live and work in Mid-City – one of our favorite neighborhood spots for Friday happy hours is All Seasons Brewery. They have a great selection of locally brewed beers and it’s dog & kid friendly – fun for the whole family!

As coffee and matcha lovers, another Mid-City gem we like to frequent is, Jurassic Magic. With a wide selection of baked goods and a secret garden in the back, it’s the perfect spot for morning meetings or a creative brainstorming session.

Finally, at the top of the list for visitors, is a stop at Escuela Taqueria. Fresh fried chips with generous portions of salsa and guac – some must try tacos are the crispy beef & pickle and the pork ribs (sweet and saucy, it’s like taco dessert). And can’t go wrong with a mango or passionfruit margarita!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We are grateful for all of our past experiences, co-workers/friends, collaborators and mentors who have contributed to shaping us into the business women we are today. We’ve had the privilege of working with a number of strong female leaders, entrepreneurs and overall powerhouses who have inspired and guided us throughout our professional journey. We also want to shout out our families for their endless support and understanding through the ups and downs of starting and building a business.
