What makes you happy? Why?

We regularly ask our interviewees what makes them happy because at the end of the day, what else really matters? We’ve highlighted some of the responses below.

Creating something out of nothing makes me happy! When it feels honest and spontaneous.

Matcha and animals! I love matcha everything, matcha tiramisu, matcha lattes, matcha cookies, literally anything matcha flavored. I’m also a huge animal lover, and it’s my dream to be able to save up enough money to open a dog and guinea pig rescue one day. I have three dogs and a hamster. Fun fact: My dad found a small, wet rodent on the side of the road while walking his dog in Echo Park about two years ago, and it turned out to be a hamster. I kept her, and she is still thriving! What makes me happy is being a creative and allowing myself to participate in the community I’ve built around comedy. I did stand-up at the beginning of my career, but over the last seven or eight years, I’ve really focused on sketch comedy, and now, I’m trying to film more content, because I think that’s my favorite thing to do. The struggle and the work. I’m not sure there’s happiness, there’s sometimes joy, there’s often satisfaction and gratitude. The process gives me fulfillment. The process of writing. The outcome can’t be predicted and whether it’s a great outcome or a failed outcome, we keep ourselves motivated, humble, and in the game because that next project is awaiting us tomorrow morning. Seeing and making beautiful things makes me happy. I love being in love, I love my friends. I think a major source of happiness for me is my work, because it’s all driven by my own personal experiences and narratives. I believe that the best art is made from a deep place of self.
