We had the good fortune of connecting with Catherine Warner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Catherine, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The purpose of being an Ayurvedic Practitioner is absolutely to help the community, and to help people find a little bit more peace in their daily lives. There are so many ways to approach that. It could be through diet, lifestyle, herbal medicine, bodywork therapies, meditation, breath work, yoga for health… whatever it is, I hope to at least give them one small thing to take with them that helps improve their quality of life. Most importantly, I always encourage my clients to come from a place of self-acceptance and compassion. If you can look towards your self with kindness, there is a greater chance of seeing the rest of the world through that lens, and spreading it further.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The thing that sets me apart is that I have a lot of heart, with a lot of love to give – but I ask my clients to come from that place for themselves too. If I can get a client to see their ailment(s) and themselves from even a *slightly* more loving perspective, I’ve done my job. As far as business, it has definitely not been easy as of late. I’ve had a lot of false-starts prior to COVID times. I am however lucky to have everyone in my community truly support me and believe in me. I really think the silver lining of this year is learning to trust.. the Universe, the unknown, whatever you want to call it. Things have a way of working themselves out, we just have to learn to surrender. Things were never in our control to begin with. 😉
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is so hard! We’d definitely have to go on a hike, Griffith or Fryman are my go-tos. The Larchmont Farmer’s Market is the cutest, and on Sundays, there is an amazing Rasta man right outside of it that sells sage his family harvests. I like bike riding from Santa Monica down to the Marina and back, and stopping at the shops in Venice along the way. We could do yoga at One Down Dog in Silverlake, it’s another amazing community I’ve loved being a part of. I also have a lot of favorite restaurants.. Honey Hi in Echo Park for lunch! For vegan/vegetarian, Elf Cafe, Sage, or Pura Vita. For pizza, Milo and Olive, and for tacos, either Tacos tu Madre, Valle, or Guisados. I mean, I could go on.. ha. If we were up for some late night dancing, we’d head to The Abbey. Santa Barbara and Joshua Tree are also very close by, if we wanted a mini getaway!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My beloved classmates and professors at both Ayurveda and Massage school.
