We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Tang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danny, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I experienced homelessness during my senior year of college, and wanted to work on solving one of the biggest issues facing the high cost of housing for college students, who often make little to no money.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I experienced homelessness, and wanted to create a platform that could help students find housing. Since launching UniShack, we’ve had over 35,000 users. The path was never easy, as it’s incredibly hard to onboard both the supply side and the demand side of a marketplace at the same time.

UniShack’s mission is to help students find housing, and any success it has seen has been because people have believed in and contributed to our mission.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Santa Barbara, so I would probably take them climbing up Gibraltar rock, and give them a short tour of the Mission, Botanical Gardens, and Musuem of Natural History.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mentors — Stan, Dan, and Brian
