We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanya Moreno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanya, why did you pursue a creative career?
I worked in the dental field for years—stable, reliable work—but I felt creatively unfulfilled. I knew I needed something that inspired me. A visit to the Los Angeles Flower Market changed everything. Surrounded by the color, movement, and beauty of that environment, I felt instantly drawn in.

That experience led me to enroll in a floral design school, where I quickly discovered a deep passion for the art. From that moment on, flowers became my creative outlet. What began as a spark of inspiration has grown into a fulfilling career where I have the opportunity to bring beauty, emotion, and meaning into people’s lives through floral design.

Growing up, I vividly remember my mother coming home with orchid planters and floral arrangements that she created. Without fully realizing it at the time, this had a huge impact on me and also played a major role in my transition into becoming a professional florist.

My floral journey began unexpectedly-with a single floral class that simply sparked something in me that hasn’t stopped blooming since. What sets my work apart is how deeply personal it is. I don’t just design flowers- I carefully craft each arrangements with fresh and in-season flowers. Every stem and color has a purpose. Whether I’m creating for a joyful celebration, a sympathy arrangement, or a simple “thinking of you” gift, I always aim to create something meaningful and soulful.
It hasn’t always been easy. As a one-woman show, I’ve had to wear every hat in my business-from design to delivery, marketing to managing during late nights and early mornings. There were moments of burnout, moments of doubt, and sacrifices behind the scenes. But my passion for creating beauty and connecting with people through flowers kept me grounded and moving forward.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to trust the process. Just start with what you have. The creative process will always have its ups and downs. It’s ok to evolve, to slow down when life calls for it, and to lean into the parts of your work that truly reflects yourself. At Tanya Floral Design, I focus on intention and connection. My goal is simple: to create floral arrangements that resonate deeply and linger in memory long after the petals fade.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many amazing spots to explore in Southern California, but a few of my go-tos when hosting friends is to start with an early morning visit to the Flower Market in Downtown LA. From there, we’d grab brunch at Bottega Louie and don’t sleep on their desserts, plenty to choose from. I always love spending time at The Huntington library- it’s like stepping into a different world. The gardens are constantly in bloom, and I love wandering through the desert and Japanese section. The botanical gardens are a must-especially the tropicals. You will spot unique varieties such as hanging Spanish moss, exotic tulip orchids, and cobra lillies.
Koreatown is another favorite for its incredible food, drinks, and vibrant energy. Cacaomexicatessen is also a must try in Eagle Rock. The food is amazing and their hot chocolate is a nice treat during cooler fall/winter months in Southern California.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to my daughters, Sadie and Zoe, who have been my greatest source of motivation and purpose. I also want to recognize my mother, who always encouraged me to keep pushing forward, even during my moments of doubt. Finally, to all my flower friends and clients who trust me with their most meaningful moments, your support, encouragement, and loyalty have helped shape my journey. Every arrangement I create carries a piece of your memories, and I’m grateful to be part of them.
