We had the good fortune of connecting with Charles Steynberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charles, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is extremely important to me, but I also understand that it’s something you have to build toward intentionally. In the early stages of launching my restaurant, Toastique Sunset, my main focus had to be on putting in the time and energy required to establish a strong foundation. Now that the business is becoming more self-sufficient, I’m able to gradually create more balance in my personal and professional life. It’s a long-term goal that evolves with the growth of the business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
VS Hospitality is the foundation of a growing hospitality group focused on launching and operating multiple restaurants and properties. I’ve been in the hospitality industry since the age of 15 and have always been passionate about owning and running my own restaurants. Over the years, I’ve gained valuable insights and learned the finer details of the trade by working in a variety of kitchens and operations. I’ve come to realize that I thrive in environments where I can oversee multiple locations—because even a small positive change in one restaurant can create a ripple effect across an entire group. With VS Hospitality, I’m building a brand that values consistency, innovation, and impact at scale

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d start the morning with brunch at Toastique—because let’s be honest, most people visiting LA want to sleep in and take it slow. After a relaxed start, we’d head over to the Petersen Automotive Museum to check out some incredible classic cars and automotive history. From there, we’d cruise down to Venice Beach to catch the action at the iconic skatepark and soak in the vibrant boardwalk energy. To wrap up the day, we’d have dinner at Verse LA—there’s always something magical happening there, whether it’s the ambiance, the music, or the food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Jazmine, has been incredibly supportive throughout this journey. Through her marketing agency, JV Agency, she’s played a vital role in growing Toastique Sunset by leading impactful marketing efforts that have truly elevated the brand. I’m also extremely proud of my in-store team—they’ve been working hard every day to improve the restaurant, even if it’s just by 1% at a time. I believe if you can do 100 things 1% better, you can create 100% improvement. That mindset is what drives our continued growth and success
