We had the good fortune of connecting with Zoie Aliado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zoie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My decision to start my own business came from a mix of passion, experience, and a desire for creative freedom. After years of working at established firms and leading both architecture and interior design teams, I realized I wanted to bring my own vision to life; one that blends aesthetics with functionality while providing a more personalized experience for clients.

I’d seen firsthand how impactful thoughtful design could be, but I also recognized gaps in the process that I knew I could improve on—more attention to detail, stronger client relationships, and a seamless integration of design and execution. Starting Zoie Brook Designs allowed me to shape every aspect of the business, from the way we approach projects to the relationships we build.

Ultimately, I wanted to create a practice that reflected my values: high-quality work, transparency, collaboration, and designs that feel both elevated and livable.

What should our readers know about your business?
Zoie Brook Designs is a high-end residential interior design studio specializing in new builds, renovations, and curated furnishings. What sets us apart is our blend of architectural expertise with a refined yet livable aesthetic—we design homes that are beautiful, functional, and deeply personal to each client.

I’m most proud of the relationships we build and the trust our clients place in us. This business grew from years of experience in top Los Angeles firms, where I led both architecture and design teams. Starting my own company wasn’t easy—it meant taking risks, wearing many hats, and learning to balance creativity with business operations. I overcame challenges by staying adaptable, leaning on my support network, and remembering that every obstacle is part of the process.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that authenticity wins. Clients can feel when your work comes from a place of passion and integrity, and that’s what creates lasting impact. I want the world to know that Zoie Brook Designs is more than a design service—it’s a partnership in creating spaces that truly feel like home.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting, we’d keep it coastal and spend the week soaking in the Westside. We’d kick things off with breakfast at Gjusta in Venice—coffee, pastries, and that laid-back Venice vibe—then wander Abbot Kinney for shopping and street art.

One day would be dedicated to Malibu—morning hike at Solstice Canyon, lunch at Malibu Farm, and an afternoon at El Matador Beach. Another would be a Santa Monica day: breakfast at Huckleberry, the Santa Monica Farmers Market, and a bike ride along the beach path to the Venice Pier.

We’d do sunset cocktails at The Proper Hotel’s Calabra rooftop, dinner at Elephante, and maybe a nightcap at Walley’s. For a more low-key evening, I’d take them to Hatchet Hall in Culver City.

We’d also spend an afternoon at the Getty Villa—history, architecture, and ocean views—followed by oysters and wine at Dudley’s Market

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe so much of my journey to the incredible mentors and colleagues I’ve worked with over the years, who not only shared their expertise but also encouraged me to trust my instincts. I’m especially grateful to the clients who believed in my vision early on—they gave me the confidence to take the leap into building my own business. And, of course, my family and friends, whose love and encouragement have been my constant foundation, deserve endless credit for keeping me grounded and inspired.
