We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Overberger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It just happened and I had no idea what I was doing and not sure I do now. But, I do know a little more than when I started. I went to the library and asked the librarian to show me the business section. For the next 6 months I randomly checked out books on business. Anything and everything I could find. The library is still a great place for information.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been teaching outdoor yoga for 20 years at Runyon Canyon in Hollywood. No one else was doing that back then. The thing that helped me the most is and was always, showing up. Seems easy but I have seen a lot of people miss that one. Of course you have days you are tired or whatever. You still need to show up. My brand is me. Someone once told be I needed to get my brand together. I had no idea what they meant. I thought they were talking about a logo or a website. But again if you show up even when you are tired you will have no choice but to be yourself and if you are you brand it will be a little easier to pull that off on the tough days.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Thai food in Thai town. Ruen Par if you get there early and can get a seat. We are also going to do some hiking over in the Bee Rock area of Griffith Park. Of course Runyon is a scene, so we will go and people watch and maybe see some famous folks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother taught me to use the library when I was a kid. That was a great start for me. Of course this was before the internet. You can learn a lot on YouTube these days too. But, I feel like the library is like traveling time back to before the Matrix.
