We had the good fortune of connecting with Kirsten Blazek and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kirsten, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Authenticity! Staying true to who you are at your core transfers into every aspect of life, “ The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are”- Carl Jung.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When approaching each project, I try to work from a place of intuition, authenticity, honesty as well as a mutual respect for the character of the home but also the needs and personal needs and tastes of the homeowners. I am most proud of the fact that while we have a clear brand aesthetic, we can also pivot and be very versatile in interpreting our clients desires. Working in the Los Angeles area and around the country means that we work with a large variety of architecture and I am proud of how nuanced we are in our designs with many different styles of homes in different locations.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am biased because I live in East LA and I love everything the Eastside has to offer! We would eat brunch at Highly Likely in Highland Park, have a late afternoon cocktail at the Capri in Eagle Rock (perfect Aperol & side walk hang vibes in the summer) and dinner at Betsy’s in Altadena, which narrowly escaped destruction during the fires and recently reopened. We would take a trip up to Ojai, one of my favorite short drive destinations, and enjoy all the design details at the newly opened El Roblar designed by Studio Shamshiri. We would definitely have to take in some art and culture at LACMA and if the timing works we would hit up a flea market or two for some amazing thrifted finds. I love thrifting at the Rose Bowl or PCC.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
What an amazing question! I am a huge believer that no one does their best work alone and running a successful business is always a collective effort. There are too many people who have helped shape my path to thank them individually, but every day I am especially grateful for my team. I have learned to surround myself with like-minded people who aren’t driven by ego and who genuinely care about the work they do, and are kind and generous with each other and our clients.
