We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Gaskins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly, starting my own business wasn’t some perfectly planned thing. It came from experiences that stayed with me for a long time. Growing up, my mom was really intentional about teaching me about money early. I remember her giving me a financial literacy book, and the first time she took us to Barnes & Noble, I was in third grade and randomly picked up Economics for Dummies. I didn’t know what economics even meant at the time, but something about it caught my attention. I barely understood the words, but I tried to make sense of them anyway—and over time, I actually did.

As I got older, I started noticing how uncommon that was. I’d be sitting in class surrounded by smart kids who had no idea how money worked—not because they didn’t care, but because nobody had ever taught them. That really stuck with me, especially knowing how much of a head start understanding finances had given me.

Sophomore year of high school, I co-founded a nonprofit teaching kids how to play stringed instruments. That experience showed me how much I genuinely loved teaching and helping people learn something new. Seeing students gain confidence through education made me realize that this was something I wanted to keep doing.

So by junior year, I decided to build something of my own around a real need and something I was actually good at. That’s how Capri Consulting started. Financial literacy felt like the obvious choice—it was something people needed, and something I cared deeply about. What started small has now grown into serving over 1,750 clients in a little over two years, and I’m really proud of that.

At the end of the day, Capri Consulting exists because I saw a gap, remembered where I started, and wanted to give other people access to knowledge that can truly change their lives.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is really rooted in impact and purpose. Through Capri Consulting, I get to do something I genuinely love—help people understand money in a way that actually makes sense and feels empowering. What sets me apart is that I don’t see this as just a business. It’s personal for me. I know firsthand how early exposure to financial literacy can change your mindset and your future, and I want to make that knowledge accessible, not intimidating.

What I’m most proud of is how far the work has come. In a little over two years, Capri Consulting has grown to serve over 1,200 clients, and that still amazes me. I’m proud of the workshops, the curriculum, and the real-life confidence I see people gain when things finally “click” for them. I was also recently named a 2026 HBCU Community People’s Choice Honoree through A Better Chance for Youth Futures, Inc., which meant a lot because it recognized the heart behind the work, not just the results.

Getting to where I am today definitely wasn’t easy, but it’s been rewarding. I started early, stayed curious, and took chances before I felt fully ready. Balancing entrepreneurship, leadership, and being a college student has come with its challenges—there were moments of doubt, long nights, and a lot of learning on the fly. But those moments taught me discipline, patience, and the importance of staying consistent even when things aren’t perfect.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had so far. Being part of my school’s honors program and being both an Oprah Winfrey Scholar and a Dr. Michael L. Lomax Scholar at Morehouse College—especially at 19 as a freshman—still feels surreal. At the same time, it keeps me grounded and motivated to keep pushing forward.

I’m excited about what’s ahead, but I also believe in letting the work speak for itself. I move with intention and trust that what’s meant for me will show through my impact. What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that it’s built on joy, service, and purpose. This journey has been a blessing, and I’m just getting started.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to town, I’d give them a real Atlanta week. First stop is Pappadeaux, no debate. That’s how we’re starting the trip—good food, catching up, setting the tone. After that, we’re hitting spots like The Hive and STK for nights out. Good atmosphere, good crowd, nothing forced.

During the day, we’d keep it simple but solid. Either Perimeter Mall or Avalon—both are easy places to move around, shop, eat, and hang out without doing too much. One night we’re definitely going to a comedy show. Atlanta’s got real talent, and that’s always a good way to relax and laugh.

I’d also take them to Morehouse College. That’s home for me, so they must see it. We’d walk campus, grab something from Black Coffee, and I’d show them around so they understand why the place matters to me.

For the Atlanta staples, we’re doing Stone Mountain for the views, Six Flags for a full day of fun, and the Georgia Aquarium at least once. And at some point, we’re taking a walk through Piedmont Park—no rush, just talking, people-watching, and enjoying the city.

By the end of the week, they’d know Atlanta isn’t just about going out—it’s about culture, energy, and knowing where to be. That’s the kind of trip I’d put together.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

The biggest shoutout has to go to God. None of this is possible without Him. Every opportunity, every door that opened, and even the challenges along the way were all part of a bigger plan that I’m grateful to be walking in.

I also want to shout out my mom. She’s been my foundation from the very beginning—introducing me to financial literacy early, always pushing education, and believing in me long before I fully believed in myself. A lot of who I am and why I do what I do comes directly from her influence and sacrifices.

And lastly, I have to shout out Morehouse College. Not because the institution started my business, but because they believed in me enough to invest in my future through a full scholarship. Being on campus every day constantly reminds me of my purpose and why I started this business in the first place. Morehouse reinforces the mission behind my work—service, excellence, and impact—and that motivation shows up in everything I build.
