Meet Devon Sedrick | Artist and Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Devon Sedrick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk it for the biscuit! Or whatever the saying is. It’s all about risk. I love feeling nervous, scared, like I’m jumping into the void. It’s what makes me feel alive and I think it’s the only way to really move forward. I think planning can be a good thing, but the best things come on the other side of a big fat risk. My parent’s instilled that in me very young and my whole life has been one big risk. Thankfully I’m still going so… I think it’s worth it.
Also, everyone wants to be fearless, or wait until their ready, or wait until their less afraid. To me that’s all BS. Being fearless is stupid, it means you don’t see what’s in front of you. Courage is the best quality you can create in yourself and you can’t have courage without fear. So search for it, search for the fear, take the risk and be courageous. What else could you want from yourself?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a musician from the states who is currently living in Brazil. Brazil opened its arms to me and allowed me to play shows and create here. There are so many creatives here. But I have also been able to join a few non-profits that are doing incredible work. They have art and choir rehearsals for the houseless, which provides food, clothing and art therapy. I’m also working with an organization called Teto Verde Favela where they are covering roofs with plants in the favelas which makes it 30 degrees colder inside an extremely hot home and environment.
Art has lead me here, and it’s not where I thought I would end up, but I love it. Sometimes we really have a strict idea where we think our life should lead us, but we have to leave room for the adventure because this is exactly where I want to be right now.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Omg I miss Marina del Rey. It’s the best. Playing music and sailing around is a dream, and it is the best possible view of the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this to all the hard working people that I am working with right now in Brazil. There are so many people here who have so much less access than I did growing up, but they are HUSTLERS! They work hard, they are making their lives and communities better and I have so much respect for them.
