We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Brockert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The initial thought behind starting my business was that I needed to do it. Right after the height of the pandemic, I started to work as an independent contractor for a couple of home health agencies for physical therapy. But soon after, I realized that I now had the freedom to branch out and create my own mobile and virtual physical therapy business. It was an exciting, nerve-wracking, and eye-opening experience.

What should our readers know about your business?
My physical therapy business is multi-faceted and has grown and changed with me and my passions: neurology and postpartum care. When I first started, Transform Physical Therapy & Wellness was an in-person mobile physical therapy business for the neurologic and geriatric community. A lot of my patients and clients have mobility or health issues that make leaving home to go to a clinic or gym very cumbersome. They would need to arrange for transportation or get up 2-3 hours early in order to get ready. I found out there was such a need for a service that would go to their homes. Then, after I got pregnant, I became very passionate about women’s health, specifically postpartum care. And I realized I could help women navigate the postpartum journey. So many moms, like me, feel completely alone and lost after having a baby. They are given a lot of information on how to keep their baby’s healthy but not themselves. A large chunk of the online portion of my business is postpartum education. I have been so blessed to build lots of relationships with individuals and clinics who refer to me. It isn’t easy to run your own business. I rely heavily on my husband, family, friends, and community for support. I have learned that having a business comes with freedoms but also more responsibility. I am a company of one, so it all comes down to me. But I wouldn’t change it for the world. It allows me to treat my patients the way I want without insurance companies dictating care. And it also allows me to create a community for my neurologic and postpartum patients. My main mission is to help people feel seen, heard, understood, and loved. And I know I do that for my clients and patients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles is such a big place with so much to eat, explore, and experience. And it absolutely depends on the type of LA experience you want to have: chill, beachy, trendy, historical, nightlife, etc. Basically we would eat, then walk around until we were hungry again, and keep repeating till night time. Some of my favorite places to eat are: Tommy & Atticus, Bay Cities Italian Deli & Bakery, Lalo’s Mariscos, Daikokuya, and Badmaash. Then we could walk around the LACMA, Manhattan Beach pier, downtown Culver City, Grand Central Market, The Original Farmer’s Market. We could ride the Metro downtown, walk around and look at all the historical buildings, and hit up a Dodger’s game and drink a michelada.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my patients and clients. Without them, I would not have a successful business that I love and truly look forward to every day. Their belief in me, my business, and my mission means everything to me. They keep me striving to be a better physical therapist and person every day.
