Meet Toby Farrugia

We had the good fortune of connecting with Toby Farrugia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Toby, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process was pretty simple.. to find a way to live off doing what I love.

Obviously this came with many hurdles but if you keep pushing you find a way to succeed.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been imeresed in music all my life, so I really can’t see my life without it. I started playing piano at the age of six then moved on to drums, bass, guitar and started performing with a number of bands. Following that I decided to go into a solo career of electronic music production and DJing. Once I was done with twenty years of DJing I decided to just keep producing music, mainly for my Publishing labels EMI & SONY and also for other artists, DJ’s, bands and singers. I was a producer before I became a DJ so this always came second nature. Once in a while when I found the time I also produce tracks under my own artist name and also collaborate with other artists.

Nowadays I mainly focus on music production which includes creating soundtracks & sound design for major companies for games, movies, documentaries and more.

There will always be challenges and hurdles to overcome when you are doing what you love as a living. The mindset is to persevere and push though tough times, knowing the good one will prevail.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Thankfully I am fortunate enough to live in Malta, which is a country surrouned by sun and sea so we get amazing weather all year round. We have amazing food, heritage, architechture and sites to experience, so anyone visitning would be spoilt for choice.

We also have the privilidge to host major performers and events here, so entertainment never goes amiss.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A shout out I’d definitely give, is to all the people who supported and helped me throughout the years since I started this journey, be it family, friends, fans, clients, anyone who helped in anyway along the way. These people gave me the courage to continue on my venture of making musc my life and for this I am eternally grateful.
