We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridgette Vasquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bridgette, how does your business help the community?
I never considered myself an artistic person, since I had gone the university route initially. It was my first year in my masters program where life just started to feel a little bit more complicated. I was in my early 20s, and developmentally our brains are going through so much at that time, and had it not been for the chaos of my early 20s, I don’t think I would’ve taken the leap into cosmetology school. Ever since I was a little girl, I was attracted to hair and connecting with people. As a kid I would give all my Barbies haircuts, I would play with my mom’s friends hair when they would come to visit and to no surprise, I was always a chatterbox. Growing up, it was always just pretend play and since I was also a pretty good student, I think that’s why education and academics was encouraged more. I do not regret that one bit, I loved having the college experience, but I think now that I am in an artistic field, I value that so much more, and I love connecting with people.
All that to say, I think my social impact is encouraging people around me to pursue something they’re passionate about. Even if they take the long route, it’s not a race. Enjoy life and don’t settle until you’re content with where you’re at.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Connection and continued education. I definitely think that that’s what’s gotten me to where I am today. I’ve always been a yapper, but it’s not just about carrying a conversation, it’s about listening and remembering. You spend a lot of time with clients as a stylist, but clients truly become friends after time. Remembering the little things goes a long way. Making everyone feel important, because YOU are. And of course, education. Styles and trends are always changing, once you’re comfortable, you’re losing. Keeping up with trends, and also making them your own by adding your special touches makes all the difference. These things did not come easy, when you’re new in your career, you’re still implementing all the things you just learned AND trying to keep that connection, it’s overwhelming. So I would just encourage people to take it one step at a time, believe in yourself and stay true to yourself along the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have a little one, so my favorite spots definitely look different nowadays. But I have many place spread out across Los Angeles. One in particular that is super kid specific is, KIDS SPACE in Pasadena. 10 out of 10!! Another sweet spot is Golden Road Brewery, it’s kid and pet friendly and serves my favorite brewskie, golden road and yummy bar food. A cute little walkable area is in Studio City, where you can totally make an afternoon out of it. Get a massage at The Now, pick up a matcha at Alfred’s, shop at the boutiquess around there and have a yummy lunch at Great White. It’s really hard to narrow it down, but these are a few of my faves.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success is credited to so many people in my life. To start, my parents. I am first generation Mexican-American, and my parents sacrificed so much to make sure that me and my siblings had the life that they didn’t have. They taught us work ethic and to never forget about your humble beginnings.
I’ve had many jobs in my lifetime, I’ve worked in customer service, as a nanny, a high school cheer coach, and a high school PE teacher, to name a few. I am very fortunate to have had great bosses, colleagues and mentors. I think it’s so important to be surrounded by people who lift you up and I hope my former bosses and colleagues know the impact they made on me, giving me the tools to succeed, and to always remain true to yourself and others.
And lastly, my husband. He’s an artist as well, and I think we both just knew how to support each other in pursuing our goals and dreams, knowing that we were always going to be by each others side. Jimmy not only encouraged me to go to cosmetology school, but supported me through it as well. Since I had to maintain a day job, my only option was to go to school at night. Shout out to my hubby, thank you for always packing my lunches and having dinner ready when I got home and so much more. I am forever grateful.
