Meet Ben Tran

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I ask myself two questions.

First, am I facing a temporary challenge, or is the goal no longer aligned with my purpose and values? Difficult seasons are part of growth, so I don’t give up just because something is hard.

Second, am I still learning and making progress? If I’m growing, even in small ways, I’ll keep going. But if I’ve sought feedback, reflected honestly, and realized that a different direction would allow me to make a greater impact, I’m willing to pivot instead of forcing something that isn’t the right fit.

To me, perseverance isn’t about refusing to change course. It’s about staying committed to the bigger purpose while being humble enough to adjust the path when necessary.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There was a season where I was chasing success and recognition in Hollywood. I thought if I became “known,” I’d finally feel fulfilled. But the more I chased fame, the more I realized it could never satisfy what I was actually searching for. Achievement, applause, and opportunities weren’t enough to fill the emptiness I felt.

Everything began to change when God redirected my heart. He showed me that my identity was never meant to be found in an audience or a platform, but in being His son. Instead of asking, “How can I become more famous?” I started asking, “How can my life point more people to Jesus?”

That shift changed the way I write songs, lead worship, and approach my career. I still pursue excellence and work hard, but my motivation is different now. My goal isn’t to build my own name, it’s to faithfully steward the gifts God has given me and create music that helps people encounter Him.

My prayer is that if anyone sees my story, they won’t just see an artist. They’ll see someone who’s learning every day that what the world promises can never compare to the peace and purpose found in Christ.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely take them all over Orange County and LA because there’s so much to do. We’d start the mornings with coffee. I’m always down to try new coffee shops. Then we’d hit the beach, probably Huntington or Laguna, because you can’t visit Southern California without catching a sunset.

We’d spend a day at Disneyland because I think everyone should experience it at least once. We’d also head into LA to explore places like Griffith Observatory, Little Tokyo, and Koreatown for amazing food. If there was a concert or worship night happening, we’d definitely go because live music is one of my favorite things.

I’m also a huge foodie, so we’d spend the week trying different spots, from Vietnamese food in Westminster to great sushi, tacos, burgers, and dessert places. Half the fun is just finding new places to eat.

We’d probably end most nights with a late-night drive, good conversations, and music playing. For me, the best memories aren’t always made at the biggest attractions, they’re made with the people you’re with.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a few people and one book that have had a huge impact on my life.

First, my mom. She has always believed in me, encouraged me to pursue my calling, and shown me what perseverance and faith look like. Watching her navigate both life and music has shaped who I am as a person and as an artist.

I’d also like to thank Scott Cunningham and Billy Meza. They have invested in me through mentorship, wisdom, and encouragement. They’ve challenged me to keep growing, both professionally and personally, and I’m incredibly grateful for the time they’ve poured into my journey.

Finally, I’d recommend the book *You’re Dying and You Haven’t Started Living Yet*. It challenged me to think differently about purpose, urgency, and making the most of the life God has given me. It reminded me not to wait for the “perfect” moment, but to live intentionally today.

None of us gets where we are alone. I’m grateful for the people who have believed in me, spoken truth into my life, and pointed me closer to Christ and the purpose He’s called me to.
