We had the good fortune of connecting with Hetty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hetty, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
People often think that giving up means failing, but I don’t see it that way. Sometimes it’s hard, but not because of the bookings or the work itself. I genuinely love tattooing. What can make it difficult is the negativity that sometimes comes with it. People can be quick to judge, leave hateful comments, or want to argue about pricing without understanding the years of practice, dedication, and care that go into every tattoo.

In those moments, I remind myself why I started. Every tattoo I create becomes part of someone’s story, and that’s something really special. The support from my clients and seeing their happiness always outweighs the negativity.

For me, the question isn’t whether I should give up. It’s whether the reason I’m struggling is temporary or something that no longer feels right. If it’s a challenge that helps me grow, I keep going. If it’s just outside noise, I don’t let it decide my path.

I’ve learned that not every opinion deserves my energy. Staying true to my work, continuing to improve, and creating tattoos I’m proud of will always matter more than trying to please everyone.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It definitely wasn’t easy, and to be honest, it still isn’t sometimes. Tattooing is incredibly rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming and stressful. The industry has changed a lot over the years. Today, it’s not just about creating good tattoos. Social media has become a huge part of being a tattoo artist, and keeping up with it can sometimes feel like a full-time job on top of tattooing itself.

Even with those challenges, I would choose this path again every single time. Creating art that people carry with them for the rest of their lives is something I never take for granted. Every tattoo tells a story, and being trusted with that is what keeps me passionate.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that hard work is important, but so is balance. I’m still learning how to switch off when I get home instead of thinking about tattooing 24/7. Creativity needs space to breathe, and taking care of yourself is just as important as improving your craft.

What I want people to know about me is that everything I do comes from genuine passion. I care deeply about every piece I create and about giving my clients the best experience possible. My goal has never been to follow trends. I just want to keep growing as an artist, stay true to my style, and create work that both my clients and I can be proud of.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely take them around Frankfurt. It’s a city that has a great mix of modern spots, good food, and a relaxed atmosphere.

We’d spend the week trying some of my favorite restaurants and cafés, walking through the city, and enjoying the skyline. In the evenings, we’d probably end up at one of our favorite bowling or billiards spots, because that’s something my girlfriend and I genuinely enjoy doing together. It’s simple, but it’s always a good time.

I’d also take them to the Main River, especially around sunset. It’s one of my favorite places to relax, walk around, and just enjoy the city. For me, the best memories aren’t always about tourist attractions. They’re about good food, good conversations, and spending time with the people you care about.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my girlfriend, my team, and my family. They’ve all played an important role in my journey, and I honestly wouldn’t be where I am without their support.

My girlfriend always believes in me and stood by my side through the highs and the lows. My team constantly motivates me to grow, inspires me, and makes the journey even more enjoyable. And my family has always encouraged me to follow my passion and supported me from the very beginning.

I’m really grateful to have people around me who believe in me, celebrate the wins with me, and remind me to keep going when things get tough.
