We had the good fortune of connecting with Gustavo Santos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gustavo, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
We as a Band believe that the most important factor behind anyone’s success is something we call smart work. A lot of people would say that hard work is the most important, but lately we’ve seen a lot of people who worked so hard ended far from their goals. so constancy is something important about wokrk, but doing it in a strategic way and being aware of every step you take is something that can make time work for you.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The NDK Band started 16 years ago, however I got to be Drummer in the band in 2018. Speaking from the real start it began in high school, it was literally the high school dream of 3 friends that got along together talking about building their lives out of their own music. and what set them apart of others in the school time who also wanted to be artists was the fact that they really see music as their dream, the main goal, music was everything to them back then and probably still is nowadays. it wasn’t that vibe from people who sees music like a hobby or something. and personally for me it’s not like that also. Music is my everything. I quite don’t know if it’s healthy or not to have this perspective, but still. I live for music. It’s the only thing that bring any sense to what I call life. So to me music it’s something kinda beyond being professional, it’s the only way to be me. It’s not about being pro, it’s about being me. because in point of view I don’t see myself existing or living without music. It wasn’t easy from the start until here, and still not being easy. There are thousand of terrifying challenges we have to face about choosing our destiny and I guess this is not only for artists or musicians. I guess hard challenges comes to everyone who clearly choose their destiny. in my personal case I deal with social matters, family issues, psychological and emotional issues. I don’t know how is about this in the USA or other countries but in Brazil if you wanna be an artist a lot of people will see you as a vagabond. so this is something that probably 90% of the Brazilian artists have to deal in society and a lots of time in family too. In my case I never got support from my family, so as a consequence of that I often struggle with loneliness and other emotional stuff. But as I said before, for me is not just about being professional. I am my art, I am my music. music is that one thing I can hold on to when it comes about having reasons to stay here. so when I have this perspective it kind of pushes me to accept and face and try to overcome every challenge. and you don’t need to be an artist to have this emotional throw that helps you overcome your challenges. this doesn’t come from Music, it comes from clarity when you chose your destiny and when you chose who you wanna be in the world. Dig deep into yourself. seek clarity in there, be transparent to yourself. because if you find yourself doing what you really wanna do, you will find whatever you need to overcome any trouble or challenge. this is not only about your profession. this is about you, and about what you can mean to the whole world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
well, since we live in Brazil and we’ve never been in LA, we would love to know those places too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout the front men of the NDK band: Rike for all his effort, willingness and dedication on taking the band to a position where opportunities are possible for us to embrace them and step by step bringing more relevance to our carreer as musiscians, songwritters and artists.
